Pre-Pharmacy Society at UCLA The Pre-Pharmacy Society at UCLA serves undergraduate students pursuing pharmacy-related careers. Meetings occur Thursdays from 6-7pm via Zoom.

Through various speakers (such as admissions representatives, pharmacy students, and pharmacists), field trips, peer mentorship, and informational meetings, we strive to keep our members informed on issues that concern them as future healthcare practitioners. Furthermore, we make every effort to develop UCLA’s students into future leaders in the field of pharmacy. Happy Week 2 everyone! We hope that Week 1 went smoothly for all of you, and want to thank all of those who attended our first meeting of the year this past Thursday. PPS will once again be meeting this Thursday, October 8th, from 6-7 PM in Franz Hall 2258A to host our annual Fields of Pharmacy presentation where we explore all that the pharmacy field has to offer. Join us to learn more about the different types of pharmacists, the various career paths available, and how you can tailor your education to align with your interests. This GM will also include a mini-social! This is a great opportunity to learn how truly unique the pharmaceutical field is, build connections with other PPS members, and earn your social point for active membership this quarter! Hope to see you all there!

— PPS is currently accepting membership applications! Find the link to the application in our LinkTree! Completing this application is a requirement for active membership, and is due by October 15th (Thursday of Week 3).
— Looking for an easy way to earn your volunteering point for this quarter? Interested in healthcare? Pharmacy is a crucial, evolving part of the healthcare system, extending beyond dispensing drugs in community/retail to include (but is not limited to) clinical practice, industry and research, and consulting. As such, pharmacists are medication experts and accessible care providers who collaborate with other health professionals to improve outcomes, manage costs, and ensure safe, effective drug use for patients.

Navigating how to become a Pharmacist and getting into the field is not easy alone. The UCLA chapter of the Pre-Pharmacy Society (PPS) is here to serve undergraduates aspiring to pursue and become leaders in pharmacy-related careers. From how to obtain your Pharmacy Technician license to how to volunteer in pharmacy positions, PPS is committed to bridging opportunities to allow members to get involved in pharmacy.

Happy Week 1 everyone! We hope that all of you are having a successful start to your academic year and are eager to get this quarter started! Join us this Thursday, October 1st, from 6-7PM in Franz Hall 2258A for the kickoff meeting of the Pre-Pharmacy Society! This event will introduce our dedicated officer board and highlight the incredible benefits of becoming a member. Discover the requirements for active membership and learn about the numerous opportunities available to you, from networking with professionals to workshops and volunteer events. Whether you’re just starting your pharmacy journey or looking to deepen your engagement, this meeting is the perfect way to get involved and elevate your experience in the field. If you have filled out our interest form found in the LinkTree, you will additionally be entered in a raffle that will be drawn at this meeting! Don’t miss out—come be a part of our amazing community!

Last, but certainly not least, introducing our incredible webmaster, Iliana Alfaro! Iliana is a senior from Mendota, CA, majoring in psychology. She is the Growth Director of American Cancer Society at UCLA, a Veterans Home Pharmacy volunteer, and a UCLA housing safety ambassador. Her career goal is to become an oncology pharmacist, and is academically interested in oncology, drug/vaccine development, psychopharmacology, and pharmacodynamics. Her hobbies include reading, playing video/board games, shopping, singing/dancing to disney songs, and going on side quests! Iliana’s favorite study drink is Nesquik Banana Strawberry Milk!

Next up, presenting our wonderful Public Relations Chair, Lily Aung! Lily is a junior from Carson, CA, majoring in biology with a minor in evolutionary medicine. She is a Veterans Home Pharmacy volunteer; Co-Director of Khmer Outreach, Retention, and Education (KORE) at UCLA; and a part of the UCLA Flying Samaritans. Her career goal is to become a clinical pharmacist, and has academic interests in drug/vaccine development, and oncology and pediatric pharma. Her hobbies include playing tennis, video/board games, photography, and reading! Lily’s favorite study drink is banana matcha!

Now, PPS is excited to introduce our amazing Alumni Chair, Catherine Do! Catherine is a junior from Menifee, CA, majoring in biochemistry. She is a part of the Vietnamese Student Union, Vietnamese Community Health Project, and is a Walgreens Pharmacy Cashier. She aims to pursue a career as a compounding pharmacist, and her hobbies include traveling, baking/cooking, reading, playing video games, tennis, pickleball, and trying new things! Catherine’s favorite study drink is pandan matcha! Alumni Chair is a brand-new position introduced to PPS this year, and we are so excited for Catherine to be the very first to hold it!

Please give a warm welcome to our spectacular Social Chair, Dow Kim! Dow is a sophomore from Seoul, South Korea and Victoria, Canada, and is a biochemistry major. She is the Finance Director of BruinKSEA (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association), and a flute player at the UCLA Symphonic Band. She aims to pursue a career in industrial pharmacy, or a PhD for drug development research. Her hobbies include reading, crocheting, watching movies/anime, listening to music, trying out cute cafes, tarot card reading (just started btw!), and writing! She also has a wide variety of interests ranging from academics (female reproductive health and hormone therapy) to gemology (not relevant to her major at all)! Dow’s favorite study drink is an ube latte!

She does Spatial Data and Environmental Justice research on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), and is a part of the UCLA Flying Samaritans. She aims to pursue a career as an industrial pharmacist. Her hobbies include hiking, baking/cooking, going to the gym, traveling, spontaneous adventures, and going to concerts/music festivals!
