Hope4Jenny - Find Jenny a Match

Hope4Jenny - Find Jenny a Match Jenny was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in April 2018. Her best chance at a cure is to find a stem cell/marrow donor. Help us find her match.

FACT: Donating is probably a lot less painful than you think.

FACT: Most people actually donate peripheral blood stem cells or PBSC. Donors may experience headaches or body aches several days before collection, but these disappear shortly after donation. During donation, donors can binge watch TV and eat.

FACT: Marrow donors are given anesthesia so they feel no pain during collection. Discomfort during recovery varies from person to person. Side effects may include back pain, fatigue, headache or bruising for a few days or weeks.

Hi All,

I have found an unrelated Donor Match! I don’t know much about the donor other than it’s from a 22 years old female. I really hope someday I get to meet her.

I was diagnosed on Apr. 19th and the outpour of love have been so overwhelming and I’m especially grateful for every hospital visit, texts, gifts, donor drive, and to those of you who shared your experience in dealing with cancer, whether it was your own or of loved ones. Each and every one of you has given me an extra dose of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I’m not alone. Each day has its own challenges and victories and so for now, I’m taking this – One day at a Time. The only thing I’m trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook. I read a quote and just had to share “ We don’t know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.”

I have been admitted into City of Hope and my Bone Marrow Transplant will be on the 27th. I’m scared, anxious, excited and in disbelief. This journey is not over but I’m going to keep chugging along and come out better and stronger than before.

Special shout out to - A3M and Be the Match.

Thank you, everyone. I’ll keep you posted after the transplant.

Love you all,

Jenny

Hi awesome people of Facebook! First I want to thank you for your support for not only Jenny but for her family. We want to make sure that all those who are joining or interested in joining the Be the March registry, are joining because they are motivated by Jenny's story but also that you'll be a future match for ANY patient in need. Over 10,000 patients need a unrelated match in the registry and sometimes they rely on patients' stories like these. So please if you're hesitant and not sure, think about it and research or YouTube what it means to be a marrow or stem cell donor. Let us know if you have any questions!

From Matthew Desario (Jenny’s Friend)

Jenny has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Without a bone marrow transplant, ALL can be fatal within a few months to a year. Jenny and her family are dear friends, and their daughters have been friends and teammates to both Cessa and Lyla for most of their lives. She’s always the first to volunteer to help in our community, is a caring and kind mother, wife and friend, and she needs us now. We need to save Jenny.

Spread the Word! Koreans, along with all minorities, are severely underrepresented in the national registry of marrow donors. Forever 21 employs hundred and thousands of ethnic Koreans. Do Won and Jin Sook Chang have consistently dedicated themselves to philanthropy and charitable giving. They and partners, Alex and SeongEun Ok, volunteer with a mission to Korea each year. Through their private good works and those they employ, they have shown their desire to help the greaterKorean community. This example has sewn the same desire and responsibility in their children.

Take Action! It may not be of future benefit for Jenny, but, please ask Mrs. Ok and Mrs. Chang to request anyone at the Korean church to register at http://join.bethematch.org/hope4jenny They can request a home kit to submit their sample. They could save someone else who finds themselves in Jenny’s position. Speaking to Ayumi (A3M Recruitment Manager) today, there is at this moment another Korean woman who hasn’t been successful in securing a match and she has very little time. If a successful donor were to be swabbed today, testing and scheduling will take 2 months before Jenny or any another patient would receive any type of marrow donation.

Time is critical.
