Myth: A doctor's note tied to your medical leave is just paperwork for HR.
Fact: That note is one of the clearest date stamps you have. It marks when your employer knew you were on protected leave, which makes everything that happened after it relevant. A PIP issued the week you returned. A schedule cut. A termination dated 30 days later. Under California law, being at-will doesn't mean the timing around protected leave is off-limits, it means the sequence of dates becomes the case.
If you've already been let go and the firing landed close to a leave, a workers' comp filing, or a report you made about safety or illegal activity, hold onto that note and anything dated near it. Call RD Law Group at (424) 535-1500. 🩺
