Did your baby receive formula in the hospital? 🍼

Sometimes supplementation is medically necessary.

Sometimes it’s recommended for other reasons.

Either way, using formula in those early days does not mean your breastfeeding journey is over.

Recent research found that non-medically indicated formula supplementation still happens during birth hospitalizations, which is one reason individualized feeding support matters so much.

If your baby received formula after birth, an IBCLC can help you:
🍼 Understand why supplementation was recommended
🍼 Protect or build milk supply
🍼 Decide whether supplementation is still needed
🍼 Create a plan that moves you toward your feeding goals, whatever they may be

The first few days do not have to define your entire feeding journey.

At Lincoln Lactation, we’re here to help you make sense of what happened, what’s happening now, and what comes next. We provide support that’s practical, evidence-based, and judgment-free.

Need help after leaving the hospital? Book an in-home or telehealth visit at lincolnlactation.com.

There’s a lot about breastfeeding that other people never see…

They may see the snuggles, the closeness, the feeding itself.

They may not see the pumping, the leaking, the sore ni***es, the interrupted sleep, the mental load, the planning, the pressure, or the responsibility that can come with being the one feeding the baby.

Every feeding journey is different, but one thing is true: the person doing the feeding deserves support.

That support might look like:
✨ Help with latch or pain
✨ A pumping plan that actually fits your life
✨ Reassurance when you’re not sure what’s normal
✨ Adjusting a feeding plan when things feel unsustainable
✨ Simply having someone listen without judgment

At Lincoln Lactation, we care about the whole picture, not just ounces, latch, or baby’s weight gain.

If feeding feels heavier than you expected, you don’t have to carry all of it alone. Book an in-home or telehealth visit and let’s make a plan that supports both your baby and you.

Hey… are you reading this at 2 a.m.? 🌙

If you’re up feeding your baby right now, you’re in good company.

For many babies, especially in the early months, overnight feeds are completely normal. They can also play an important role in maintaining milk supply while lactation is being established. 🤱

And since October is SIDS Awareness Month, it’s worth remembering that breastfeeding is associated with a lower risk of SIDS as part of the bigger safe-sleep picture.

So if you’re awake wondering, “Should my baby still be eating overnight?”, the answer is… maybe.

Every baby is different, and there isn’t one universal timeline for dropping night feeds.

If you want help figuring out what’s best for your baby, your supply, and your feeding goals, we’re here.

Breast milk is more than food.

Yes, it provides calories, fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals, but human milk is also a complex, living fluid that changes over time.

Research suggests breast milk contains components that do much more than provide nutrition, including:

🤍 Antibodies and other immune factors
🤍 Enzymes that support digestion
🤍 Hormones and signaling molecules
🤍 Human milk oligosaccharides that help support the gut microbiome
🤍 Living cells and other bioactive components researchers are still learning about

Its composition can also shift across a feeding, throughout the day, and as your baby grows.

That doesn’t mean feeding has to be all-or-nothing to be meaningful.

Whether you’re nursing, pumping, supplementing, or combining feeding methods, every family deserves support that fits their goals and circumstances.

Human milk is remarkable, and we’re still discovering all the ways it supports babies and parents.

Returning to work before you're ready? You're not alone. 💜

Every family's leave looks different. Some parents return after a few weeks, others after several months, and many wish they had more time.

Wherever your timeline falls, you don't have to figure out feeding on your own.

Before you go back to work, an IBCLC can help you:
✔ Create a pumping schedule
✔ Introduce a bottle if needed
✔ Build a realistic freezer stash (without the pressure!)
✔ Troubleshoot supply concerns
✔ Make a plan that fits your job and your family's goals

There isn't one "right" return-to-work plan, only the one that works for your family.

Need help creating a plan before your first day back? We offer in-home and telehealth IBCLC support to help make the transition a little easier. 🤍

On World Mental Health Day, we want to say this clearly: your feeding plan should support your mental health, too. 💜

Breastfeeding, pumping, supplementing, and bottle feeding can all carry a lot of emotion, especially when things don’t go the way you expected.

Sometimes support means improving a latch.

Sometimes it means changing a pumping routine.

Sometimes it means adjusting a goal that is no longer working for you.

There is no feeding plan worth sacrificing your mental well-being for.

At Lincoln Lactation, we look at the whole picture: your baby’s needs, your feeding goals, and how you are doing along the way.

If feeding has become a major source of stress, you deserve support. An IBCLC can help with the feeding side, and a mental health professional can help with the emotional side when needed.

Your health matters, too. 🤍

There’s something extra special about hearing from a dad who saw just how much the right feeding support could change things for his whole family. 🤍

We’re so grateful this family trusted Lincoln Lactation during such a stressful season with their twins.

Feeding challenges can feel overwhelming, especially when weight gain, latch, and bottle feeding are all concerns at once. Having an IBCLC look at the full picture can help families understand what’s happening and create a plan that feels manageable.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for trusting Lincoln Lactation to be part of your family’s journey. 💜

If you're feeling overwhelmed by feeding challenges, you don't have to navigate them alone. Whether you're expecting, have one baby, or multiples, we're here to help. Book an in-home or telehealth visit to get personalized, evidence-based support.

Your body is incredible. 🤍

For years, researchers have known that breastfeeding is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. But they didn't fully understand why.

New research may have uncovered part of the answer.

Scientists found that breastfeeding appears to leave behind specialized immune cells in breast tissue that may help recognize and respond to abnormal cells—even decades later. These cells were found to persist for many years after lactation, giving researchers a better understanding of one possible reason breastfeeding has been linked with a lower risk of breast cancer.

This doesn't mean breastfeeding guarantees protection, and it certainly doesn't mean parents should feel pressure or guilt about how they feed their babies.

It simply reminds us how remarkable the human body is—and how much we're still learning about lactation.

Whether your feeding journey lasts two weeks, two months, or two years, you deserve support that's compassionate, evidence-based, and free from judgment. 💜

☕ International Coffee Day feels especially important when you have a baby. 😅

The good news: research suggests moderate caffeine intake is generally compatible with breastfeeding.

A cup of coffee, or two, usually does not mean you need to pump and dump or avoid breastfeeding.

A few things to keep in mind:
☕ Caffeine does pass into breast milk in small amounts
☕ Younger or premature babies may be more sensitive to it
☕ If your baby seems unusually wakeful or fussy, it may be worth looking at your total caffeine intake
☕ Coffee, tea, energy drinks, chocolate, and some medications can all contribute to your daily total

Every baby is different, so there isn’t one perfect rule for everyone.

Enjoy your coffee, pay attention to how your baby responds, and ask your IBCLC or healthcare provider if you have questions about what works best for your family. 🤍

When a new baby arrives, it's natural for everyone to ask: "How's the baby doing?" 👶

It's an important question. But here's another one we hope every new parent hears:

👉 "How are you doing?"

Supporting infant feeding means supporting the whole family.
Sometimes that support looks like improving a latch.
Sometimes it's finding a pumping routine that works.
Sometimes it's creating a feeding plan that better fits your family's needs.

And sometimes, it's simply having someone sit beside you and say:

"You're doing a good job."

At Lincoln Lactation, we care about more than how your baby is feeding. We care about how you are feeling, too.

Whether you need reassurance, practical guidance, or help navigating a feeding challenge, you don't have to do it alone.

Need personalized support? We offer in-home and telehealth IBCLC visits for families in Lincoln and surrounding communities.
💜 Because when parents are supported, babies benefit too.
