THE LOAD IS PLANNED. IS YOUR PARKING?

A trip plan needs more than pickup and delivery times. It needs a legal place to stop, a backup option and room for delays.

When the first lot is full, the problem can become bigger than an inconvenience. Waiting at a receiver or getting caught in traffic can narrow the options you thought you had.

Plan parking early, check location restrictions and communicate changes before you run out of safe options. A shoulder or ramp is not a substitute for a lawful, safe parking plan.

What works best on your runs: reserving ahead, stopping earlier or planning multiple backup locations? Share practical tips—not your live location.

A REAL MC NUMBER DOESN’T PROVE THE CALLER IS REAL.

FMCSA warns that fraudsters can misuse a legitimate carrier’s USDOT number or pose as a broker without proper registration.

Before accepting an unfamiliar load, check the entity’s identity and authority through official FMCSA records. Compare the name and contact information with the paperwork. Independently verify unexpected pickup or delivery changes with known contacts; don’t rely only on a number in a new message.

If something doesn’t match, pause and involve your carrier or dispatcher before moving the freight. Verification checks reduce risk; they don’t guarantee a load is legitimate.

What warning sign has made you stop and double-check a load? Keep company names and shipment details private.

WHAT MAKES A DISPATCHER WORTH STAYING WITH?

A clear pickup time helps. So does knowing the delivery plan before accepting the load—and getting a straight answer when that plan changes.

Good communication means more than answering the phone. It means discussing available hours, realistic appointments, parking and the plan for getting home.

At VGN, we want this Page to reflect what working drivers actually value. We’re listening to practical experiences, not asking for customer names or screenshots of private conversations.

What is one thing a dispatcher did that earned your trust? And what information should always be shared before a load is agreed?

DIESEL DROPPED IN THE OCTOBER 5 DATA. WHAT ARE YOU SEEING AT THE PUMP?

EIA’s national on-highway diesel average was $6.199 per gallon for the week of October 5, down 18.3 cents from $6.382 on September 28. These are dated national figures—not today’s local pump prices.

For an illustrative 200-gallon purchase, that difference is $36.60 before discounts. Your actual fuel bill depends on where you stop and your purchasing arrangements.

Crude oil, refining, supply levels, distribution and taxes all affect diesel prices. Seasonal heating-oil demand can also add pressure. One weekly decline doesn’t guarantee the next one.

What diesel price are you seeing on your usual routes? Include the state and date so drivers can compare.

ON TIME. STILL WAITING.

Your appointment was at 8 AM. At 1 PM, you’re still at the dock. Five hours have passed, the next load is getting harder to make, and getting home on time looks less certain.

This is a discussion scenario—not a claim about a particular customer. But the question is real: what is a driver’s waiting time worth?

A workable detention agreement should explain when the clock starts, what records are needed, who approves payment and when the driver receives it.

When should detention pay begin, and what hourly rate would fairly compensate you? Share your experience without naming customers.

ELECTRIC SEMIS AT THE TRUCK STOP: WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU TRY ONE?

Pilot and Tesla announced October 8 that their first joint Megacharger site is open in Ellabell, Georgia, with six heavy-duty charging stalls. Pilot also reported 12 additional locations under construction.

According to Tesla, the equipment can restore 60% of a Tesla Semi’s charge in 30 minutes. Actual performance can vary; that is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every stop.

For working drivers, the questions go beyond speed: will a stall be available, can charging fit your route and breaks, and what support is there when equipment goes down?

What would you need to see before trying an electric semi—dependable range, available chargers, payload or operating cost?

Know your service dates upfront. Scheduled preventive maintenance, brake inspections and routine truck/trailer inspections—ALL paid by the company.

Brand-new tires. No recaps. Company-covered truck and trailer tire changes at our yard.

Weekly home time is possible depending on where you live. We explain how your schedule affects earning opportunities before you commit.

3. A PAYCHECK THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE?

How we solve this problem for you:

Compare real driver statements: gross, fuel, deductions and final settlement. Understand the truck note and regular weekly costs upfront.

Choose your fuel stops—independent mom-and-pop stops are welcome. Direct deposit every week.

Earnings vary with freight, fuel, expenses and time worked.

4. NOT ENOUGH MILES—AND TOO MUCH WAITING?

How we solve this problem for you:

You didn’t leave home to sit at a truck stop. We plan toward 3,000–4,000 weekly miles, aligning pickup and delivery schedules to reduce avoidable gaps.

You deliver safely and on time; we focus on planning and dispatch support. No forced dispatch.

5/5 OR 6/4 SLEEPER SPLITS—WOULD YOU USE THEM?

FMCSA is moving toward a pilot program that would let participating truck drivers split their required 10 hours of rest into options such as 5/5 or 6/4, alongside the familiar 7/3 and 8/2 arrangements.

The expanded study is planned for 2027, with approximately 256 drivers participating for four months. Researchers will examine fatigue and driving performance to determine whether more flexible rest schedules can work safely.

For drivers dealing with changing appointments, traffic and long waits at receivers, more flexibility could help them plan their day. But splitting rest into shorter periods also raises a practical question: would you actually feel rested?

CURRENT RULES STILL APPLY. These additional options would be available to approved pilot participants—not all drivers nationwide.

Drivers: would a 5/5 or 6/4 split work better on your runs, or do you prefer one longer stretch of sleep? Tell us why.
