Good afternoon, FB Friends,

September is an important month for su***de prevention. World Su***de Prevention (September 10, 2016) and National Su***de Prevention week (September 5-11, 2016) provide us with the opportunity to encourage people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts and behaviors, and to expand the number of people who are actively engaged in su***de prevention and mental health problems. (Su***de Prevention Resource Center Newsletter, 2016)

So please join us in speaking up and reaching out to help break down stigmas associated with mental health.

Please join me in commending the extraordinary and unselfish Volunteer Service provided by our young volunteers, Emily and Sarah Fatkin, Kendall Bowling, Caitlin O’Laughlin, Gaige Arthur, and Andrew Patton during the 2016 Memorial Weekend Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Washington DC event. They graciously volunteered to serve the military family members of our deceased Veterans. TAPS (TAPS.org) provides Peer Mentor Training using former Vets, who in turn, remind the children that they are still a part of the military family and that their loved one’s sacrifice will never be forgotten. I know their parents are proud of their hard work in 85+degree heat at West Potomac Park, DC, for the 22nd Annual TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp.

Our young chickadees volunteered for tasks involved in the main event called “Playfield in the Park.” This included the early morning behind-the-scenes set-up of events, the ex*****on of main activities for young survivors, set-up for lunch donated by national vendors, and the not-so-glamorous (but necessary) cleanup events.

Their generous compassion, drive, and fun demeanor served as a source of calm for the children of our deceased Veterans, and helped them engage in the scheduled activities designed to help them heal.

I couldn’t be prouder.

PRiSM Resiliency Resources, Inc. took an unexpected break last year after the death of Linda's precious husband of 44 years, Dale Fatkin. Dale was a former Marine, and very proud of his service. He died after an eight-month battle with lung cancer, and until now, Linda was not able to post anything. This fuels our already strong passion to assist America's Veterans. PRiSM Resiliency Resources, Inc. will soon be embarking on a huge cross-country endeavor to assist Vets and their families with PTSD. We (Jen Arthur and I) will send regular updates and will be asking for your valued feedback along the way.
