"I became a Surgical First Assistant because I wanted to do more than just be part of the operating room, I wanted to directly impact the outcome of the case. Starting as a surgical technologist, I quickly realized that anticipation, precision, and teamwork are what truly drive great surgery.
Becoming an FA allowed me to take that responsibility to the next level.
My path into this role was built through experience, consistency, and a commitment to growth. Working in the CVOR shaped me the most. In cardiac surgery, there is no room for hesitation every move matters, every second counts, and every decision can impact a patient’s life. That environment taught me how to stay calm under pressure, think ahead, and function as a true extension of the surgeon.
At the end of the day, what keeps me passionate about this profession is knowing that my work directly contributes to patient outcomes. Whether it’s harvesting a conduit, maintaining exposure, or helping control bleeding, every detail matters. You may not always be the one in the spotlight, but your impact is undeniable."
