Hiring feels different right now.
A lot of businesses still need people, but things just aren’t moving the same. It’s slower, more cautious, and a little uncertain.
There’s data behind that too. Over half of small businesses are trying to hire, but nearly half say they’re getting few or no qualified applicants. At the same time, hiring demand is still strong, with the U.S. outlook sitting around 38%.
Jerome Powell recently described the labor market as “zero employment growth.” And honestly, that’s exactly what it feels like.
The need is still there. The movement just isn’t.
That’s what makes this market tricky.
More applications don’t always mean better ones. And the good candidates don’t stick around long.
Which means every hire matters more than ever.
If your process is slow, unclear, or dragging out, it’s going to cost you. Because when the right person shows up, you don’t get many chances.
