Thiers Memorial Fly-in & Car Show This is an annual Fly-in & Car Show hosted by the RPI Flying Club and Capital Car Shows. All donation

This is the sixth year that the RPI Flying Club is hosting, in partnership with Capital Car Shows, the Thiers Memorial Fly-in and Car Show. The event will feature a wide variety of exhibitions from classic cars to military aircraft. However, the importance of the event is much more than to raise money; it is to support the future of aviation. The Thiers Memorial Fund provides financial assistance

to students pursuing careers in aviation. All donations from this event will be directly deposited into the fund.

While we are excited the fly-in and car show is now only two days away, it is important to remember who our event is named after and why this event is so important to us. Lawrence H. R. Thiers, RPI Class of 1999, played an important role in the history of the RPI Flying Club. Not only did he serve as president, he was also a friend and mentor to the members of the club. Tragically, Lawrence passed away the day before his graduation in May 1999. While the current members the RPI Flying club never knew Mr. Thiers, we hear many stories from alumni and faculty of what an incredible individual he was. In his memory, the Thiers fund was created to provide financial assistance for students of the club to achieve what was Lawrence’s greatest passion, the art of flying. We dedicate this annual fly-in in Lawrence’s memory, knowing this is something he would be proud of.

We are less then a week away from the event and are happy to announce that the folks at the 109th Airlift Wing will once again be bringing over one of their crash trucks to our event this coming Saturday. The crash truck will be open for tours and will be doing a demonstration around noon. We hope to see familiar faces as well as many new ones!

Car show season is right around the corner, which also means great flying weather! We're pleased to announce that Independent Helicopters will be present and giving rides throughout the day of our event!

The 7th Annual Thiers Memorial Fly-In & Car Show is a month away and we are as stoked as you are. Our friends at LifeNet of New York will be bringing one or two of their helicopters and will have the cockpits open for tours. Stay tuned for more information!

Lawrence H. R. Thiers, RPI Class of 1999, played an important role in the history of the RPI Flying Club. Not only did he serve as president, he also was a friend and mentor to the members of the club. Tragically, Lawrence passed away the day before his graduation in May 1999. In his memory, an endowment fund was created to provide financial assistance for students of the club to achieve what was Lawrence’s greatest passion, the art of flying. We dedicate this annual fly-in in Lawrence’s memory, knowing this is something he would be proud of.
