Thanksgiving is synonymous with the “bounty” or in more modern times our Thanksgiving Turkey Feasts This has become one of the finest traditions in the US.

Founded on gratitude for the feast our early European ancestors and the Wampanoag tribe who provided the food but also the teachings of agriculture and hunting shared together.

Thanksgiving as a holiday originates from the Native American philosophy of giving without expecting anything in return. A most beautiful sentiment.

Today, I give thanks for the all the good (and bad) I have been blessed with and focus on the positive instead of the negative but never forget the past or naively disregard our violent history and a prayer of hope to do better today and in the days and years to come. As the late great John Lennon said, “imagine all the people living life in peace.” Happy Thanksgiving.

Twice a year I make it a point to go on a weekend spiritual retreat and this morning I embark on another one. It offers me an opportunity to step away from the usual routines of daily life and focus on personal growth, self-reflection, and inner peace. Here are just a few of the gifts I receive while attending.

Minimal distractions to help me connect with my thoughts and feelings.
Workshops, discussions, or teachings focused on spirituality and self-awareness. Nature, simplicity, community and solitude. Opportunities to fellowship and to meet like-minded individuals. Detox from technology
renewal and clarity. And most importantly a chance to leave feeling rejuvenated, with a clearer sense of purpose and peace.
