SWATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Council The Ethnic Diversity Advisory Council is to serve in an advisory capacity to the Executive Board of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association.

Objectives and Strategies

In keeping with the SWATA objectives and strategies, the Ethnic Diversity Advisory Council will:

1. Increase the body of athletic training care by serving as an advocate for the dissemination of information and research relating to health care issues and conditions which affect the health of physically active ethnic minority individual

s (i.e. sickle cell disease, lactose intolerance, at risk populations, substance abuse, mental health issues).

2. Identify and address issues relating to cultural distinctions in health care delivery.

3. Identify and advise the Board of Directors as to the status of ethnic minorities within the association.

4. Identify and advise the Board of Directors with the public positions on issues relating to the health care for the physically active ethnic minority. In conjunction with the SWATA Affiliates and subsidiaries, the Ethnic Diversity Advisory Council seeks to:

1. Obtain data regarding the status of ethnic minority athletic training applicants, enrolled students and graduates to approved graduate and undergraduate curriculums

2. Obtain data regarding the performance of ethnic minorities on the Board of Certification examination.

3. Advocate the recruitment and retention of student athletic trainers by the establishment of grants and scholarships for ethnic minority student athletic trainers.

4. Identify, develop and mentor ethnic minority leaders

With a heavy heart, I share that today we lost one of my mentors, John "Doc" Harvey.

To those who knew him, Doc Harvey was much more than an athletic trainer. He was a mentor, teacher, advocate, encourager, and friend. He possessed the ability to lead, inspire confidence, and offer guidance when it was needed most. No matter the circumstance, Doc was always there steady, dependable, and selfless.

Through decades of service, he helped shape the profession of athletic training while exemplifying compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment. His knowledge, dedication, and tireless work ethic influenced generations of athletic trainers and impacted countless students, colleagues, and leaders.

What made Doc truly special was the way he cared for people. He invested in others, celebrated their successes, and helped them navigate their challenges. His kindness, wisdom, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Thank you, John "Doc" Harvey, for your extraordinary contributions, your pioneering spirit, and your lifelong commitment to serving others. Your impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.
