A smokejumper lands near the Bingham Fire this year. If you want to land near some fires by parachute next year, get your apps in. Open right now at USAjobs.gov, search “smokejumper” in keyword search, and then apply for the region or regions you are interested in. Many regions have done some hiring during phase two, some like Missoula and Redmond are only hiring off phase 3 right now. Get those apps in!

“It’s not over ‘til it’s over. 32X and crew responded to the Bingham Fire, along with other aerially delivered resources from the , Redmond Smokejumpers, and Redding Smokejumpers. As the incident emerged, we found ourselves plugged in all around the fire as Divisions, Task Force Leaders, Felling Bosses, Lookouts, and snag mitigators. It was hot, it was cold (very cold), and it kept us on our toes.

We’ve got extra warm layers packed in our belly bags, and we’re ready to see what the rest of October has in store for us as the nation moves back up to a PL of 5.”

Canadian and American smokejumpers continue to stay busy up in BC with a record breaking season. While things continue to finally heat up in the US. This is a great photo near the door of the BT-67 (DC-3) aircraft used by the BCFS, this is the best smokejumping platform past or present.
