We support individuals with special needs and other life challenges by providing inclusive early childhood EDUCATION, pathways to EMPLOYMENT, and statewide family SUPPORT programs (GAC, ISOP, P2P-CO).

We support thousands of Coloradans through inclusive education, pathways to employment, and family support programs, allowing individuals with special needs and other life challenges to thrive.

Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, Samantha (Sammy) Michelle Loewi turned a school project into an opportunity to demonstrate that kids are just kids. 💖💪🏼🏆

Being the only student in a wheelchair at her school, she suggested a Special Olympics Colorado day to expose her peers to students with different abilities.

Twenty years later, that one-day event has evolved into Sammy's Buddy Program, pairing students with disabilities with non-disabled peers. The program has positively impacted over 40,000 students in 69 Denver and Salt Lake City metro area schools.

To say that Sammy is no longer with us might be a misnomer.

Her mission continues today to build community and connection between students with and without disabilities. Today on Rise & Shine, we talk to Heather Manone. She's the executive director of Sammy's Buddy Program in the Denver metro area. She talks about their four programs; how they continue to build understanding, inclusion and leadership for all abilities, and how they're a convenient way to foster empathy in a growing number of schools.

It is truly an honor to regularly be a part of a community that cares so much. On Friday, we held our 21st Straight Shot Sporting Clay Event. It was another magnificent gathering of people from all over the country who get together every year to help the five community-based programs of Ability Connection Colorado. Our intrepid photographer and graphic designer has posted the moments he captured. Tomorrow morning is packed with dozens of teams. The Straight Shot Sporting Clay Event is a lot like many of the things we do here: driven by families who have inspired change simply by wanting the best for their loved ones.
