🚨 ATTENTION NC FIRE DEPARTMENTS! 🚨

Vehicle crashes are a leading cause of line-of-duty injuries and deaths among firefighters. We need to ensure that Everyone Goes Home.

The NC Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and Division Chief Tony Bailey are calling on EVERY firefighter across North Carolina to sign the 2026 National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Seat Belt Pledge.

The Commitment: "I pledge to wear my seat belt whenever I am riding in a Fire Department vehicle. I further pledge to ensure that all my brother and sister firefighters riding with me wear their seat belts."

Chief Bailey and the OSFM want North Carolina to lead the nation in participation! If you haven't signed the new live document yet, please do so today and share it with your fellow department members. (Note: If you signed the previous pledge on the advocate site, you are already counted!)

On behalf of the North Carolina Fire Marshals Association, we extend our most sincere condolences to the Durham Fire Department on the tragic Line of Duty Loss and injuries sustained on the tragic occurrence that took place earlier today. May we also offer our prayers and thoughts to the families, loved ones, and the Durham Fire Department and ask for the Lord’s blessings and comfort in this most difficult time.

Randolph Mantooth (aka Johnny Gage) has passed away at age 80 on July 10, 2026. He was an inspiration and motivated many of us to choose the career path we did. The show highlighted the medical aspect of the fire service and even was the catalyst that led to the creation of many fire-based EMS services.

RIP Johnny and thank you for the many memories and your indirect mentorship.
