Tomorrow, I will pin Sergeant First Class—just shy of nine years in service. In that relatively short time, I’ve had the distinct honor of serving alongside, learning from, and being shaped by every Soldier I’ve encountered.
Whether the experience was challenging or uplifting, each interaction has left a mark—each Soldier has, in their own way, made me a better leader. Some taught me patience. Others, resilience. Many reminded me of the power of humility, and all reminded me of the weight of the uniform we wear.
I’ve had the incredible privilege of helping launch countless careers—standing at the start line with young men and women ready to serve, then watching as they grow into the very leaders our force depends on. It’s one of the most rewarding experiences in this profession of arms.
Today, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. To the Soldiers who trusted me, to the mentors who sharpened me, and to the leaders who challenged me to rise—I thank you. The Ohio Army National Guard, and the broader military family I’ve come to know, has given me more than I could ever repay.
This rank is not a finish line. It’s a new starting point. A renewed commitment to lead with purpose, serve with integrity, and give back to those who are just now beginning their journey.
To those coming up behind me: keep pushing, keep learning, and know that leadership is never about you—it’s about those you serve.
Thank you for being part of my journey. I am honored, humbled, and ready for what comes next.
