Very few can put a qualified, native-speaking Kinyarwanda or Kinyabwisha, or Maay Maay interpreter in the room on short notice.

We are not going to pretend the big national vendors are bad at what they do.

A translation can be word-perfect and still land wrong.

A health brochure that reads fine in English can carry an image, an example, or a phrasing that means something very different or something offensive in another culture.

Cultural validation is the review step that catches it. Native reviewers who don't just speak the language, but live the context.

It's the difference between "technically correct" and "actually understood.

Your translated documents might be locked out too.

A PDF a screen reader can't read is not accessible and for covered organisations, that's a legal exposure, not a nice-to-have.

Section 508 and the ADA require that documents from covered entities work for people with disabilities. A scanned, untagged PDF fails that test, however good the translation is.

She had been to four of these meetings before.

She signed everything. She nodded in the right places. She went home and told her husband she thought it had gone well, because that is what you say when you do not know what else to say.

An IEP meeting where the parent doesn't understand the IEP is not a meeting.

It's a formality with a signature at the end.

If a district cannot communicate the plan in a language the family understands, the family cannot meaningfully consent to it, question it, or hold anyone to it.

That is not a translation problem. It is an equity problem that happens to be solved by translation."
