Respect.

Eccsc is an alliance between community members and community organizations dedicated to targeting solutions to violence. Through collaborative grassroots efforts and leadership development, we use our collective power to influence public policy, create structural change and inspire solidarity among us all. Eccsc Five Year Plan is to demolish barriers in employment and change the narrative for peo

ple of color on the north side of Chicago. This will be accomplished by reducing incarceration rates by 30%, recidivism rates by 20%, and dropping the expulsion rates in Chicago Public Schools by 50% for communities on the north side of Chicago by 2020. In May 2013, Ralph Edwards (Eccsc) successfully compelled the Chicago Park District to keep lights on at Willye White Park at night to provide for safer passage for residents north of Howard in Rogers Park. In 2014, Ralph Edwards (eccsc)worked with Representative Mayfield to "Ban the Box" (HB5701), and remove the felony question from job applications. This change allows employers to judge applicants on their qualifications first, without the stigma of a record. Two new campaigns began in 2015 - "Ban the Box 2.0," and efforts to increase GED education throughout the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition, Eccsc is actively working on issues surrounding police accountability in Chicago. Go here: http://Eccsc.org to express your interest, and an organizer will contact you! Please share stories, videos and a articles related to the work done by the Violence Prevention Team of Chicago and it's members! Post meeting info, community actions and events. And don't forget to invite all the kindred spirits and social justice warriors you know. You may disagree with another post/person but this group requires all dialogue to be respectful. ANY posts glorifying violence, containing disrespectful and/or personal insults will be deleted immediately. This is a space to develop our POWER as members of this community to come together in SOLIDARITY to take POSITIVE ACTIONS to AGITATE and CHANGE injustice and systems that allow/permit injustice. Eccsc recognizes violence as a symptom of systemic injustice. As such, the solutions to violence are found in addressing and fighting injustice.
