In our first year, we hosted hiring festivals, attended 300+ events, took big risks (and a big cruise), and learned what it really takes to build something people believe in.

Our first official year stretched us in all the right ways. We grew our team, expanded our reach, and proved that real conversations can change how hiring happens.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of our first chapter.

On Sunday, January 25, we’re bringing 30 startups and 200 job seekers together at Surf Incubator in downtown Seattle for an in-person hiring event built around real conversations.

That's a wrap on ! HR Tech 2025 made one thing clear: the future of work is moving fast, and even startups need to keep pace. Here are 5 takeaways that matter most if you’re building from the ground up:

[1] Get AI-ready, even if you’re small.
Pilot AI tools for recruiting, onboarding, or workflow automation. Think time-savers, not giant platforms.

[2] Build a skills-first mindset early.
Hire and organize around skills, not rigid roles. It makes your team more flexible and resilient as you grow.

[3] Prioritize employee experience from day one.
Every hire matters more in a startup. Use tech that makes onboarding, feedback, and recognition easy. It sets the tone for culture.

[4] Keep data clean and simple.
Adopt lightweight systems now to centralize employee and candidate info. Future-you will thank you when it’s time to scale.

[5] Bake in ethics and inclusivity.
Fast growth can’t come at the expense of fairness. Setting values early helps you attract and retain the right people.

If this year’s HR Tech conference showed us anything, it’s that startups don’t have to do everything, but they can’t afford to ignore these foundations.

We’re inspired by the innovation shaping the future of work.

We watched finalists Hallo, Match2, SCALIS, SonicJobs, Spirence, and Trua pitch their fresh ideas to deliver better outcomes for employers, employees, and job seekers. It’s amazing to see how much the startup landscape has evolved over the past decade. The presentations were polished, the ideas ambitious, and the potential for real transformation clear.
