Making the Right Impression

They say you only have one chance to make a first impression, and that is as true of job applications as in person. Your Resume (or an application form) and your cover letter, are, effectively, your first contact with a potential employer. They need to hit the right note if you are to get a chance to impress at an interview.

The first thing to remember when preparing your Resume and Cover Letter is that they should be tailored. A standard Resume is unlikely to be successful. It must contain all the right elements, and it must also show that particular employer why you are their perfect employee. Even if you do not change the wording, it is worth tweaking the order in which you present your skills and experience to show the most relevant first.

The cover letter is the really tailored element. It has to explain in a page or two why you are perfect for the job or company. It has to ensure that you stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons.
