Please contact your BESE Board member and let them know how very important these programs are to the future of our children.
In keeping with its’ mission and guiding principles - funding of public education, local autonomy, and quality public education – the LSBA has long advocated for Louisiana to have an accountability system that is aligned, continuous, and equitable.
Last month, the LA Department of Education (LDOE) rolled out its latest plan for proposed changes to high school accountability. These proposed changes will be submitted to BESE this week for consideration on Wednesday, June 12th.
Should this proposal pass tomorrow, it will result in several outcomes that are of major concern for our students and all educational stakeholder groups.
1. Seventy-five percent (75%) of high school letter grades would be based on 6 End of Course (EOC) tests (LEAP).
2. Diminishes the importance of career and tech programs (art, JumpStart, credentials, dual enrollment).
3. All the efforts and resources of the last decade and the partnerships formed with business and industry that were used to increase career and workforce ready pathways (JumpStart) would now be dedicated to assisting our students in scoring Mastery and Advanced in EOC (LEAP) tests. Students would no longer receive points in accountability for scoring a Basic.
NOW is the time to take action and reach out to your BESE member(s) regarding these proposed changes!
