What You Will Do
The Prototype Fabrication Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides technical experience and proficiency in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's nuclear stockpile stewardship efforts. The successful applicant will join the Prototype Fabrication Engineering group's Programming Team; supporting computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing, computer aided engineering, and computer numerical control programming technologies. The programming service supports both prototype and high rigor, formalized production agency processes. The primary focus of the successful applicant is supporting the programming needs of the Prototype Fabrication Mark Quality Manufacturing Center. The selected candidate will provide models based systems engineering for machining process, tool path development, configuration management, and controlled CNC-programs having associated process flow documentation. Responsibilities include learning the established machining production processes and leading the machining programming efforts for continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with journeyman machinists, designers, and engineers to develop new mission machining processes requiring the technical ability to directly test machining programs, and assist the production staff with the running, maintenance, training, and continuous improvements of machining processes.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
* Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), required to provide design phase consultation for product manufacturability, conceptual prototypes, and interpretation of intent for fabrication.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the development of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM).
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the development of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) for 3-axis machinery and tools.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the development of configuration management of mechanical design Models Based Definition (MBD) from a Trusted Digital Product (TDP).
* Direct experience with manual and CNC tool programming, fixturing, setup, tooling, and hands-on machining.
* Effective time management skills required to manage multiple tasks with varying priorities and deadlines.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
* Existing DOE Q clearance or equivalent.
* Technical communication; writing, editing and presentations skills. (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access)
* Verbal and written communication skills required to independently prepare and present data to peers, colleagues, management, customers and NNSA working groups.
* Configuration Management (Windchill PDMLink)
* Manufacturing Applications (Creo/Creo Manufacturing, and SolidWorks/CAMWorks)
* CNC post processing (Austin N.C. GPost)
* CNC verification and simulation (CG-Tech Vericut)
* CNC Controllers knowledge and experience (FANUC, Mazatrol, HAAS, Okuma, Siemens, Hurco, Mitsubishi, Sodick, Charmilles, etc )
* On machine gauging (PC-DMIS-NC, OMGEC)
* Knowledge of manufacturing, machining techniques, and general inspection technologies.
* Multi-axis (5-axis) CNC machine tool experience.
* Software management to include; local and network installation, testing, and maintenance.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
