For the second year in a row, the gender pay gap has widened. Women working full-time now earn just 81 cents for every dollar men earn. Women executives earn just $0.69 for every dollar their male counterparts make. This reflects the cumulative effects of slower career progression and caregiving penalties.
Here's the hard truth--We cannot wait for systems to fix this for us! One of the most powerful things any woman can do right now is learn to clearly articulate her value and negotiate her compensation.
That means:
π²Keeping a record of your wins, not just your responsibilities.
π²Knowing your market rate (Payscale, Glassdoor, LinkedIn Salary, Your Network).
π²Asking directly--research shows women who negotiate do get more.
π²Practicing your talking points like you'd practice a presentation.
Your accomplishments don't speak for themselves if you don't speak for them first.
New data in time for Equal Pay Day finds that the pay gap widened since last year, deepening lifetime earnings losses for women. Find out what that implies for employers.
