One of the biggest mistakes I see in interviews is people trying too hard to impress.
They talk too much.
They oversell themselves.
They try to convince me they're the smartest person in the room.
The candidates who leave the strongest impression usually do something different.
They listen.
They answer the question that was asked.
They ask thoughtful questions of their own.
And they carry themselves with a quiet confidence that says, "I belong here."
After 27 years in staffing, I've learned something simple:
Confidence speaks. Ego shouts.
The goal of an interview isn't to prove you're better than everyone else.
It's to show an employer who you really are.
