Simon's story is one of transformation π. From street life to stable livelihood, he's found purpose through Green Home Plastic's recycling program πΏ.
By night, Simon collects/ harvests plastic bottles on the streets of Gulu City π, scavenging for discarded bottles outside bars, clubs, and party spots πΉπΊwhen people are busy enjoying alcohol.
As a dedicated collector πΌ, Simon earns a reliable income πΈ, supporting his daughters' schooling π and family's well-being π . He's not alone in this journey; collectors like Omara π¨, who has a son in school π, and Juma π¨βπ¦βπ¦, a father of five and grandfather π΄, also play a vital role.
Omara and Juma harvest plastic bottles from the Olailong dumping site π³ during the morning and afternoon βοΈπ
, selling them to us to support their families' basic needs π΄, medical bills π₯, and school fees π.
The harvested plastic waste is then recycled into premium, high-quality Foundation Eco-Blocks π, which are three times stronger than traditional cement blocks πͺ.
We are partnering with Easy Housing to use these Eco-Blocks in houses foundations ποΈ. Together, we're not only creating jobs for Ghetto youths and women π₯, but also reducing plastic waste pollution π, giving plastic waste a second life β»οΈ, and minimizing the carbon footprint of cement in construction πΏ.
At the moment, we plans to provide our collectors with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) π‘οΈ for safe collections/harvest.
By contributing to Green Home Plastic's mission π, Simon, Omara, Juma, and many others are building a brighter future for themselves and their community π.
