Carbon Footprint Tells a Story

What exactly is a carbon footprint? It's the total amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (COβ‚‚) and methane (CH4) produced directly or indirectly by human activities, measured in units of carbon dioxide equivalents (COβ‚‚e). Think of it as the environmental "bill" we rack up from everything we do, from driving cars to powering factories.

Yale students found a fungus in the Amazon rainforest called Pestalotiopsis microspora that can actually eat plastic. It releases special enzymes that break apart the strong bonds in polyurethane, one of the toughest plastics.

The fungus then turns it into organic compounds it can use for food and energy. This discovery could offer a natural way to fight plastic pollution.

When a tiger picks up our plastic, it's a mirror to our responsibility.

This powerful scene isn't just about wildlife.

It's about us.

If nature's most majestic creatures are forced to clean up after humanity, we have to ask ourselves:

Are we protecting the planet or making it carry our burden?

Plastic pollution doesn't only scar oceans and rivers - it disrupts entire ecosystems.

And yet, the solution starts simple:

- Reduce single-use plastics

- Reuse wherever possible

- Recycle responsibly

A tiger should never have to be part of waste management.

Meet Simon, one of our premium plastic bottle collectors! 🌟 He earns over $300 per month collecting plastic waste bottles at night, when they're often discarded on the streets by people who're drinking🍸 at night.

By collecting these bottles, Simon helps prevent them from entering into drainage systems, reducing the risk of flooding and environmental pollution. 🌿πŸ’ͺ His dedication is making a real difference in our city.

Simon's story is one of transformation πŸ™Œ. From street life to stable livelihood, he's found purpose through Green Home Plastic's recycling program 🌿.

By night, Simon collects/ harvests plastic bottles on the streets of Gulu City πŸŒƒ, scavenging for discarded bottles outside bars, clubs, and party spots πŸΉπŸ•Ίwhen people are busy enjoying alcohol.

As a dedicated collector πŸ’Ό, Simon earns a reliable income πŸ’Έ, supporting his daughters' schooling πŸŽ“ and family's well-being 🏠. He's not alone in this journey; collectors like Omara πŸ‘¨, who has a son in school πŸŽ“, and Juma πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦, a father of five and grandfather πŸ‘΄, also play a vital role.

Omara and Juma harvest plastic bottles from the Olailong dumping site 🌳 during the morning and afternoon β˜€οΈπŸŒ…, selling them to us to support their families' basic needs 🍴, medical bills πŸ₯, and school fees πŸ“š.

The harvested plastic waste is then recycled into premium, high-quality Foundation Eco-Blocks 🌟, which are three times stronger than traditional cement blocks πŸ’ͺ.

We are partnering with Easy Housing to use these Eco-Blocks in houses foundations πŸ—οΈ. Together, we're not only creating jobs for Ghetto youths and women πŸ‘₯, but also reducing plastic waste pollution 🌎, giving plastic waste a second life ♻️, and minimizing the carbon footprint of cement in construction 🌿.

At the moment, we plans to provide our collectors with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) πŸ›‘οΈ for safe collections/harvest.

By contributing to Green Home Plastic's mission 🌟, Simon, Omara, Juma, and many others are building a brighter future for themselves and their community 🌈.
