Eastern Samar Provincial Jail Escapee Rearrested in Caloocan City
Camp Sec. Ruperto K. Kangleon, Palo, Leyte - A fugitive who escaped from Eastern Samar Provincial Jail in Borongan City last September 22, 2003, was rearrested in Caloocan City yesterday.
Aldwin Rivera, 43, a native of Can-avid, Eastern Samar was rearrested in 4th Ave., cor., D. Aquino, Brgy. 50, Caloocan City at around 11:00 AM of February 1, 2023, after an intensified manhunt operation and continuous validation thru joint intelligence research from operatives of NDIT, RIU-NCR (lead unit) together with RID, NCRPO, DSOU, NPD, DIDMD NPD, DID NPD, PIU-ESPPO, and Can-avid Municipal Police Station.
The escapee remained elusive for nineteen years and took refuge with the Legaspi Criminal Group, a gang involved in a series of carnapping in Metro Manila where he was sighted in the area and was placed under surveillance.
He was previously arrested on April 15, 2003, in Brgy. Balud 1, Borongan City by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for Violation of Sec. 11 and 12 of RA 9165 under Criminal Case No. 11454 issued on November 24, 2008, by Hon. Leandro C. Catalo, RTC 8th Judicial Region Branch 2, Eastern Samar.
Rivera was informed of the cause of his arrest in a language he understood but opted to remain silent. He was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center for physical and medical examination.
He is now under the custody of DSOU, NPD for proper documentation prior turn-over to the court of origin. An Alternative Recording Device (ARD) was utilized by personnel of DSOU, NPD for record purposes during the operation.
PBGEN ROMMEL FRANCISCO D MARBIL, PRO 8 Regional Director, lauded the relentless efforts through intensified intelligence and police operation of the arresting operatives that led to the successful capture of the escapee. “We are doing our best to prevent convicted individuals from evading prosecution, and they must face serious consequences for their crimes,” RD Marbil said.
