Crafting plastic waste with robots The New Raw is a creative practice that explores the merging fields of digital fabrication and material resourcing.

We close loops by introducing digital fabrication technologies in the recycling process of discarded materials. In this manner, we explore what design can do for waste-overproduction and material misuse. The New Raw was founded in Rotterdam in 2015 by Foteini Setaki and Panos Sakkas.

For our 10-year celebration, our robots were not producing a product.

Instead, they shaped a temporary garden from the shredded remains of our production. Something shaped, erased and reshaped again.

It felt like an appropriate way to mark ten years of The New Raw - a practice built around experimentation, transformation and finding value in what is often overlooked.

Ten years later, we don’t have all the answers. But we understand the questions much better.

Still curious. Still experimenting. Still optimistic.
