Dear hostess/ushering agent to build a vibrant and effective event hostessing/ushering agency has a lot to do with leadership.
You need to know your leadership style and which is most effective to bring the best out of your team. There are about 7 basic leadership styles:
1. Autocratic
2. Authoritative
3.Pacesetting
4. Democratic
5. Coaching
6. Affiliation
7. Laissez-faire
Because we deal with lots of hostesses with individual differences, one style will not cut across. This means you can mix and match out of these 7. Also be open to test and fine tune as you go along.
I personally have evolved from different styles over the years. I currently have about 4-5 leadership style that I make use of depending on the team I am leading and the situation at hand.
But before you start leading your team you need to be clear on your destination (vision and mission of your company), if not you will be in motion but there won’t be any movement or growth.
Not sure about your leadership skill? Start by having standard for your company, get all your team to abide by it and see how that goes.
Always remember when things aren’t going as planned it has a lot to do with leadership. Don’t beat yourself up, just go back to the drawing table, identify the loophole and deal with it.

Deep down, I know one of your biggest wish is to get selected for jobs or book your service for jobs. To get to this point, there are two things to consider:
1. Are you passionate about being an usher or running an ushering agency? You see passion is the fuel that will keep you moving on days when it seems all hope is lost, when you receive lots of rejection or days when your ushers make you loose clients. It is your passion that will keep you going.
What if you are not passionate about it but you know you want to do it because of the earning potential involved, then it means that 👇
2. You have to learn the “Act of Being A Successful” usher or ushering agency. Quick tip on how to go about this is; Scroll through Instagram, pick ushers or ushering agencies that you aspire to be like. Study what they do and apply it. A true success leave clues. If you want to take it a notch higher, pay for a training or ask someone to coach you.
Two questions I have for you:
1. Do you have the passion to be an usher or run an ushering agency? If not, 2. Are you ready to learn the act of being successful in this industry?
Reflect on the above, it will guide you in the right steps to take for the journey ahead.

After doing an assessment of our activities last year and the level of impact achieved both in job opportunities and trainings, it is time to move a step higher.
When I coach people in event hostessing one of the things I make them do is to get clear on that one major goal they want to achieve while working as an event hostess or running an agency.
Why is this important?
It helps you know where to channel your energy.
It also helps you measure your progress and productivity (which I talked about in the previous post)

It could be in the amount of money you want to earn, or the number of jobs you want to execute this e.t.c. Whatever it is feel free to share in the comment section.

With the nature of our job, there is a tendency to get carried away with being busy and we think we are being productive. That is why it’s important that once in a while we touch base with our “drawing board” and recalibrate.
To be able to recalibrate it means before now you already have a vision, mission or goal you plan to achieve. On that note you need to go back to the drawing board and ensure you are on course.
As an usher/event hostess is this industry helping achieve the purpose of why you started? Are you progressing upward or you are just jumping from one ushering job to another? Have you really attained the height you aspired to reach?
As an ushering/event hostess agency is your output still aligned with the vision you had for your company? Are you still working in line to achieve your 1, 3, or 5 years goal or you have abandoned it on the road side?
If you are honest with your answers and are not happy with it, it’s a sign you need to take out time and recalibrate.
While on the recalibration exercise, first assess your activities last year. What did you do well? What didn’t you do well? This will guide you in knowing what to continue doing, what you need to drop or if you need to adopt another approach. If not you keep going around in circles.
To ushers/event hostess don’t assume this does not concern you. Swipe and see the response I got from a WhatsApp group after I shared my journey from when I started as an usher. From onset, I was clear on what I will achieve every year as an usher. So don’t hide behind “I am just an usher”. From experience I have come to see all these things adds up that is why I am drawing your attention to it.
If you don’t have what to recalibrate, it means you need to start from the beginning to be clear on your vision, mission and then set goals whether you are an usher or ushering agency.
This year focus on being productive
