The design used by the Batek stems from a design originally created by Ubuntu Blox's Harvey Lacey. It is understandable to be a bit sceptical of the idea of building with plastic. Therefore over the next few weeks we will be posting different structures you can use the plastic bricks for. This week we'll show you how to build a garden row for your plants. Here are some photos of the process

Welcome to the Batek Waste Press Project!

The press is a wooden mechanism that allows for the manual compression of thin plastics (such as plastic bags) and Styrofoam into blocks which can then be used as a building material.

The Batek are a semi-nomadic indigenous community and one of the most impoverished people in Malaysia. Building and selling these presses allows the Batek to benefit from an alternative form of employment in building a product that helps reduce and reuse the amount of plastic in the world!

This page will keep you updated on all news related to the building of the presses as well as the vast building potential for the blocks.

Feel free to contact us via private message if you have any more queries about the project.
