Our lovely host, Inga, greeted us Saturday morning, on 4 July, with delicious crepes. She waked up early, even though she managed the sauna yesterday evening, and though she had birthday today – such a wonderful lady! After we sang happy birthday to her, we travelled yet again to Gulbene, to the local youth centre. It is not only a community place, but it also has rooms to play pool billiards, a theatre room, a relaxation room, and it also has a kitchen, showers, and a bedroom for ten people that can be freely used if someone cannot go home after a hard day’s party. Not only these opportunities make the centre such a great place, but they also organise a lot of fun activities and programmes, so they can address and attract a lot of young people.
We visited the local cabbage factory, which is one of the largest in Latvia.
It was again this time of the year when the Gulbene District Festival called “Forest flower – Lejasciems” was held. It is basically a big market, where you can buy the best and most fascinating goods of Latvia. After we bought enough souvenirs, we went back to the eco house to spend the evening there and to throw a little go-away party. We reminisced about this week and the past two years. Surely, it was eventful, and we learned a lot about and from each other! We went to bed a little sad, but the professional relationships and friendships we have made will compensate for it.
This was a wonderful week and a wonderful programme. We are grateful for everything, and, in the name of the Hungarian participant, Civil Centrum Public Benefit Foundation, we would like to thank everyone for everything, and we hope that we will see you in the future.

Friday morning, on 3rd of July, we enjoyed our host’s hospitality as the breakfast was a display of all the products they make there: cheese, jam, cottage cheese, oatmeal…
We then went straight to Gulbene, where the mayor himself greeted us.
It was followed by an Open Space activity: in small groups we elaborated four topics - rural cooperation, rural creativity, rural entrepreneurship, and rural E-life. This way we thoroughly discussed the problems and opportunities in rurality.
There was no stopping even after this good work, because we all boarded a train that took us to the next venue. Even on the train, we could listen to a couple’s success story. They are a Latvian guy and an American girl, who, after having travelled the world, decided to settle in the country and start their own businesses. Their story and business philosophy were really motivating.
We arrived to Stāmeriena, where we visited a farm. This farm placed its emphasis on high quality, so they produced only a little of everything, but they really looked like they are made with the greatest care.
Of course, there was time for recreation as well, so we had a refreshing bath in the ponds, and, when we arrived back to the eco house after dinner, we tried the traditional sauna. The Latvians take their time to immerse themselves in the experience: the whole process is about 2 hours long, during which we were also treated with herbal massage, then to cool ourselves we jumped in cold water, finally we laid down covered in towels. It was very soothing, almost spiritual - the perfect way to finish this day.

The Latvian part of our mobility programme started on Thursday, 2nd of July. First, we visited the incubator house run by our Latvian partner in Valmiera, which helps businesses in their inception. We also heard the success story of one of its clients. To combine professionalism with fun, we visited a local beer factory, Valmiermuiža, with doing some obligatory beer tasting.
After this we went to an outdoor training place to have some team building. The challenging tasks really did bring the best out of us and we got closer to each other as well.
We finally visited the place we would be staying this week: an extremely eco-friendly guest house run by a very friendly family. This was the literal embodiment of e-rurality: deep in a forest, self-cultivated vegetables, not letting a drop of water go to waste, yet, there was wi-fi access.

We left early in the morning for Yeste, where we met the co-workers of the local tourist information, where they presented their job. The obligatory cultural experience couldn’t be missing this time either, so we visited the town’s church and castle, where through miniatures we had a glimpse of what life looked like in medieval times. It was a bit surprising to us that although it is a very colourful region with a lot of possibilities, tourism is mostly regional or national, but not many foreign people come here. We will surely recommend it to our friends back in Hungary!
After this we had lunch in a nearby spa. We continued our excursion day to a waterfall that was truly breath-taking.
We closed the day and the mobility with another tasty dinner and the evaluation. As we started packing for the next day’s leave we felt a little sad to say goodbye to this wonderful region and to our kind hosts, but we take home a lot of joy and knowledge.
We would like to thank our Spanish hosts, the Spanish people, and of course our international partners for everything. We hope you enjoyed this week as much as we did. See you in Latvia next time!

On Thursday, we were looking forward to a very busy day with lots of interesting programs. In the morning, we participated in a workshop that gave us much useful information. We had a great group leader who showed how and with what kind of tools we can operate a website and a webshop, basically for free. It was a very inspiring practice, thanks to the useful means we received and the well-designed presentation.
After the workshop, we went to the neighbouring town to see the local bronze foundry. There we met some fascinating people who produced marvellous things. We also witnessed other good practices, like a soap manufacture and a carpenter, who all make very nice products. Mostly these go to the Spanish market, but there are already some international connections. Between these visits we had a short workshop, during which we heard a presentation about the local tourism.
At the end of the day there was a lovely and touching ceremony held for our honour, during which the residents of Molinicos sang, played music, and danced for as and with us.

The first day of the Spanish Mobility started off wonderfully. After receiving the basic information, the hosted helped the guest countries getting to know each other with playful exercises. After this, we took a pleasant walk in the village of Molinicos, and among others, we saw a splendid waterfall, and we gained insight into the history of Molinicos. We also learned that its name comes from the Spanish word “molino”, meaning “mill”. After a plentiful lunch, there was a longer tour, where we saw the village museum presenting what life looked like from the 1920’s, and our guide, Carmen, told us colourful stories about the locals.
In the afternoon, we listened to a presentation about EU funds and other options available in Spain. There was also time to visit the local olive oil manufacture that works from only organic materials, and the good quality product of which we tasted during dinner. At the end of the day, we were understandably tired, but in a pleasant way.
