You can have all the right skills for a role and still miss out on your dream job.
Skills matter. Your qualifications, experience, and technical abilities are important when competing for a role.
But increasingly, recruiters and hiring managers are also looking at how you work. How do you communicate? How do you collaborate? How do you respond to feedback? Can you adapt to different ways of working? Do your values align with the organization?
Skills and culture fit go hand in hand.
During recruitment, don't just tell employers that you're adaptable, collaborative, or a good communicator. Show them. Use real examples from your experience that demonstrate how you've worked with different people, adapted to change, handled challenges, and contributed to a team.
And remember, culture fit is not about changing who you are to please an employer.
You're not only trying to prove that you're right for the organization. You're also assessing whether the organization's culture, leadership style, and way of working are right for you.
The goal isn't simply to get the job. It's to find an environment where your skills, values, and way of working can thrive.
