β€ŽπŸŒ± Fusarium Wilt
β€ŽPathogen: Fusarium oxysporum (a soil-borne fungal pathogen)
β€Ž
β€ŽAffects: Tomato, banana, cotton, legumes, cucurbits, etc.
β€Ž
β€Ž
β€ŽSymptoms
β€Žβ—Gradual yellowing and wilting of lower leaves
β€Žβ—Browning of vascular tissue (visible when stem is cut)
β€Žβ—Stunted growth
β€Žβ—Symptoms often appear on one side of the plant first
β€Ž
β€Ž
β€ŽHow It Spreads
β€Žβ—Survives in soil for many years
β€Žβ—Spreads via contaminated soil, water, equipment, and infected seedlings
β€Žβ—Often enters through plant roots
β€Ž
β€Ž
β€ŽManagement (High-Level & Safe)
β€Žβœ” Resistant varieties – Most effective long-term solution
β€Žβœ” Crop rotation – Rotate with non-hosts (grasses, cereals)
β€Žβœ” Soil solarization – Using clear plastic to heat soil and reduce pathogen load
β€Žβœ” Improve soil health – Organic matter, compost, and beneficial microbes can suppress Fusarium
β€Žβœ” Good drainage – Pathogen thrives in stressed, waterlogged plants
β€Žβœ” Sanitation – Clean tools, avoid moving infected soil
β€Žβœ” Biological control – Trichoderma and other beneficial microbes (commercially available)

GLYPHOSATE

Many people know the name but few know the story.

Glyphosate didn’t begin as a farming tool. It was first discovered in 1950 by a chemist named Henry Martin.

But it wasn’t until the 1970s that a company began using it as a w**d killer. They later sold it as Roundup, and since then, glyphosate has become one of the most widely used herbicides in the world.

At first, it was praised. They said it kills w**ds quickly and breaks down easily in the soil. Farmers saw their farms clean and believed they had found a miracle.

But over time, stories began to change.

It started with the soil, how it was losing life. Farmers noticed their soil was becoming hard, crusty, and less fertile over the years.

Scientists like Zaller et al., 2014 confirmed that glyphosate reduces soil microbial activity. That means the very tiny creatures that keep the soil rich were dying silently.

Then came the water. A 2014 study by Battaglin et al. found glyphosate in over 75% of rain and stream samples in farming regions of the U.S. Midwest. What we spray doesn’t always stay where we sprayed it.

And then came the health concerns. The World Health Organization’s cancer research arm (IARC) declared in 2015 that glyphosate is β€œprobably carcinogenic to humans.” That one word probably gave rise to global lawsuits, with some farmers in the U.S. winning their case after developing cancers linked to long-term exposure.

Even breast milk samples tested in some areas showed traces of glyphosate (Moms Across America, 2014).

Now, many countries are restricting or banning glyphosate. But some farmers still use it daily, believing it is harmlessβ€”just because the crops still grow.

Crops growing doesn’t mean the land is living.

We can’t keep saying we care about health and soil while ignoring what we feed both of them.

Glyphosate may have been made with good intent. But the harm it brings today should wake us up.

Let’s not trade short-term w**d control for long-term catastrophe

1. π—œπ—‘π—™π—’π—₯π— π—”π—§π—œπ—’π—‘:
The buyer didn't get enough information from the seller. Maybe he or she visited the Agrovet with a product in mind so ignored the advice from agronomist.
2. π—Ÿπ—”π—•π—˜π—Ÿ:
Whoever sprayed, did not READ THE LABEL or instructions on how to use it.Agribusiness require close monitoring, sometimes you can give instructions via phone πŸ“± but ,how sure are that the same has been implemented?

3. 𝗣𝗒𝗒π—₯-𝗦𝗧𝗒π—₯π—”π—šπ—˜:
Storage errors, farmers can store all types of herbicides in the same space, if the farm manager confused between the selective herbicide, non selective herbicides for maize, beans etc such incidents can occur. Buy what is enough for use,

4. 𝗖𝗨π—₯π—œπ—’π—¦π—œπ—§π—¬??😠:
some of the Agrodealers sometimes they don't bother to ENQUIRE from the buyer, or examine the farmer on the level of product KNOWLEDGE πŸ€”

5. π—–π—’π—‘π—™π—Ÿπ—œπ—–π—§ 𝗒𝗙 π—œπ—‘π—§π—˜π—₯π—˜π—¦π—§π—¦:
Some of the many Agrodealers are businesses, profit making sites. Good source of employment, correct. Job creation, correct. What about the EXPERIENCE? To the manager or businesses owners, do you have the best staff in listening to customers,Analysing their challenges and recommending the correct solutions? 😠 Do,you engage various suppliers to enlighten your Team? PAY ATTENTION

6 .π—›π—¬π—šπ—œπ—˜π—‘π—˜: residues of different chemicals reacts differently, thorough cleaning of our spraying pumps or equipment is MANDATORY. No shortcut in farming,

Where is the professionalism in this sector?

ECOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS
Specific geographic conditions, sunshine, temperature, wind, precipitation and soil composition, need to prevail to guarantee an excellent quality and good yields from the coffee plants.
●The ideal temperature range for Arabica coffee lies between 18 and 24 degrees centigrade.
●Maximum day temperatures should not exceed 30 degrees centigrade and night temperatures should not fall below 15 degrees centigrade.
●Arabica coffee is normally grown at altitudes from 1400 to 2000 m with a rainfall of not less than 1000 mm per year. Where coffee is grown under conditions of minimum rainfall, mulching is essential to conserve moisture.
●Robusta coffee is more resistant to pest infestation
Robust is well adapted to warm and humid equatorial climates with average temperatures of 22-26 degrees centigrade, minimum not below 10 degrees centigrade, at altitudes of 100-800 m and well-distributed annual rainfall of 2000 mm or more. The ideal amount of rainfall lies between 1500-1900 mm.
Coffee prefers well-drained and airy soils, which drain freely and have a depth of at least 1.5 m and 3 m in drier areas.
Humus-rich, lightly acidic soils of pH range 4.4-5.4 are beneficial.
Field Operations
Land preparation & Planting
Propagation is done by seeds or by use of grafts.
While preparing the planting site,
Dig holes of size 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm at a spacing of 2.75m x 2.75m for the traditional varieties. A closer spacing of 2m x 1 m on flat land for small holders without spray roads is recommended.
Fill the holes 4 weeks before planting with a top soil mixed with farmyard manure or well-rotted coffee pulp plus DAP. The fertilizer and manure should be mixed to increases nutrient uptake rate by the plants and stimulate growth among other benefits.
Spacing for β€œRuiru II” is 2 x 2 m or 2 x 1 m giving a population density of 2,500 – 3,300 trees/ha for small holders.
Potted seedlings should be transplanted when they are about 30-40 cm high with maturing bark about 1
