**Stop applying. Start positioning.**

A few weeks ago, I reviewed the job search strategy of a senior executive.

Impressive background.
Global leadership roles.
A meticulously written resume.

Yet after **90+ applications**, he had not received a single interview invitation.

His first reaction was predictable:
“Maybe my resume still needs improvement.”

It didn’t.

What needed improvement was the **strategy behind the search**.

Most professionals still treat job hunting as a numbers game.
More applications. More portals. More “Apply Now” clicks.

But the modern hiring ecosystem doesn’t operate that way anymore.

Research across recruitment platforms consistently shows that **nearly 75% of roles are secured through referrals, professional networks, or proactive engagement**, long before they appear on job boards.

Meanwhile, companies increasingly rely on **Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS – software that screens and ranks resumes before a human ever sees them)** to filter thousands of submissions.

Which means this:

Submitting more applications often means **entering a larger digital queue**.

Not increasing your odds.

The professionals who move fastest today understand something counterintuitive:

**Opportunities rarely reward visibility after the role is posted. They reward credibility built before the search even begins.**

They engage with industry peers.
They build thoughtful professional visibility.
They become known for their expertise before they become applicants.

The result?

When opportunities surface, **their names are already in the room.**

A simple experiment you can try today:

➡️ **Reach out to two leaders in your industry and ask a thoughtful question about their work or current market trends. No pitch. Just professional curiosity.**

You may be surprised how often conversations quietly open doors that applications never could.

So here’s a question worth reflecting on:

**Are you searching for jobs… or positioning yourself for opportunities?**

👇 Curious to hear your perspective in the comments.

What if not getting interviews has less to do with how high you aim and more to do with the path you are showing you can...

What if not getting interviews has less to do with how high you aim and more to do with the path you are showing you can actually fly?

That question has been sitting with me for weeks.

A client revealed his concerns last month:
They shared ten applications and zero responses.
They felt like they were aiming too high.

I asked to see one application instead.

What I found was not ambition. It was a mismatch.

Ambition is your altitude, the title you want.
Evidence is your trajectory, the signals you send that prove you can land there.

Hiring teams do not bet on potential alone.
They bet on reduced risk.
They look for patterns that match the problems they must solve this week, this quarter, this year.

So I started giving one simple homework to people who tell me they are aiming too high.
Reverse engineer a single job posting.
Translate one achievement into the employer’s currency.
Show a tiny trajectory with a micro project or case study.

I watched that client make these three small moves and get an interview within two weeks.

Not because they dialed down ambition, but because they learned to show the route rather than just the destination.

If this resonates ...

DM me to plan your next career move or upgrade your career documents.

Sometimes one strategic shift is all it takes to turn silence into interview calls.
