YNG Africa

YNG Africa Africa is rich with skilled labor and untapped talent. YIA is a portal for employers around the world to connect with fresh talent from the continent.

With 200 million young people, Africa has the youngest population in the world. Statistics show that almost 50% of the continent's 10 million university graduates each year do not get a job. Here is a continent rich with skilled labor and untapped potential and talents. MyJobPlug is a portal for employers around the world to connect with fresh talent from the African continent. Through our career

matching tool, young Africans can engage in a transparent and nondiscriminatory recruitment process (sadly now exclusionary) that helps them to discover their true interests and skills, and matches their competencies and talents with interesting opportunities, top employers, and rewarding internships. Moreover, we believe in not only creating job opportunities for young Africans on the continent but in helping young Africans explore their interests and abilities through a skills and interest assessment that matches them to opportunities they would otherwise not explore. We believe in the power of internships for:

1) Discovering the multitude of career opportunities available
2) Refining interests, skills, and talents
3) Gaining future employment
4) Growing one's network and mindset
5) Maintaining financial stability

We thank you for joining us for this journey as an intern or employer. Please send us a hello and/or any thoughts/questions/concerns at [email protected]

We look forward to hearing from you.

We are on Viasat discussing whether our universities are preparing the youth for the job market.

"It is not that (all) young Africans are not prepared for the job market. Rather, outside of traditional career options, young Africans are not aware of the opportunities available to them in their industries of choice. For example, many still believe that you major in English to either write a book or teach.

Yet, there are many other career options for the English major to explore. These include but are not limited to being an editor, digital strategist, corporate blogger, copywriter, creative and lifestyle writer, advertiser, and marketer. These roles are in demand and will only continue to grow as the internet continues to pe*****te the continent.

As Professor Peter Authur of the English Dept. shared in my conversation with him, part of this work also means teaching and empowering our students to learn of the business of the things they enjoy – fashion as a business, sports as a business, the business of music, the business of media. These areas and industries have been developed into multibillion dollar industries in the West. Our fashion, sports, music industries are rich with talent and opportunity. How do we engage the youth in developing skills for these areas where new entrepreneurs and employers (many on our website) are desperately looking to hire?"

Hot Monday read. Mike Nyinaku, CEO of BEIGE Capital Ghana says "Jobs dey, but boys no day"...that is:

"I see a great deal of opportunities in Ghana, in spite of our challenges. Our country also has entrepreneurs with capacity to move and make things happen. But like Shepherds, we also need willing, prepared and dedicated people to help us attain our goals. If you ask me, I can say with confidence that “Jobs dey, but boys no dey”. Truly, “the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few”. Again I’d say “Jobs dey, but boys no day”"

What are your thoughts on his statement? Where do you stand on the issue of whether there are jobs in Ghana (or Africa at large)? Are there workers for the opportunities present?

This piece was delivered by Mike Nyinaku, CEO of BEIGE Capital at a two-day International Summit on Leadership Enrichment organized by Translead Consult (TC) and Eric Kwapong Ministries (EKM), in Accra on the 14th of May, 2015.
