FROM COMPLIANCE TO INCLUSION: TURNING A TOOLKIT INTO ACTION
Creating pathways to economic inclusion starts with removing barriers. Through a virtual sensitization on the Disability Inclusion Toolkit, facilitated by CDC Consult in collaboration with the Ghana Federation for Disability Organizations (GFD), financial institutions explored practical approaches to expanding access, improving customer experiences, and advancing opportunities for persons with disabilities. This is in line with the shared vision of inclusive growth championed by Mastercard Foundation and CapPlus implemented through the FIRST+II program. Click the link below to read more.

Creating an inclusive financial ecosystem requires more than policy, it requires action, collaboration, and intentional leadership.

As a partner firm supporting the FIRST+II program, CDC Consult was pleased to collaborate on a call-to-action session focused on the Bank of Ghana’s Directive on Financial Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities.

In collaboration with the Bank of Ghana, Capital Plus Exchange (CapPlus), and the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), the session brought together management teams from twenty (20) financial institutions to strengthen commitment toward disability-inclusive finance in Ghana.
The discussions focused on:
• Improving physical and digital accessibility
• Strengthening staff capacity on disability inclusion
• Developing customer-centred financial products
• Promoting inclusive communication channels for persons with disabilities

Facilitated by Maame Saa Oduro-Frimpong from the Financial Stability Department of the Bank of Ghana, the session highlighted the importance of embedding disability inclusion into institutional strategies beyond compliance.

A key message throughout the engagement was clear: inclusive finance creates opportunities not only for persons with disabilities, but also for institutions seeking to expand outreach, strengthen trust, drive innovation, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Through initiatives like these, the FIRST+II program continues to support the development of more resilient, inclusive, and responsive financial ecosystems across Ghana.

When it rains In Old Fadama, the impact goes far beyond flooded streets
Blocked drains don’t just damage property; they disrupt livelihoods, threaten public health, and hit the most vulnerable communities the hardest.
Through the Community Initiative on Gender-Sensitive Human Mobility and Climate Change Project, Rufinlit LBG, with support from the IOM Development Fund and in partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, and IOM Ghana worked with the community to desilt a 408-metre stretch of drainage where smaller channels converge and often trigger flooding.
1. The impact:
• Faster recession of floodwaters after rainfall
• Removal of decomposed waste and sludge, improving environmental sanitation
• Reduced mosquito breeding sites, reducing risks of malaria and cholera
• Stronger community commitment to keeping drains clean
2. The lesson:
Desilting brings immediate relief, but lasting flood resilience depends on continuous maintenance, stronger community ownership, and stronger waste management systems.
This is not the finish line, it is a step towards safer, healthier, and more climate-resilient communities.
Real change happens when communities, institutions, and development partners work together.
The work continues.

What really drives SERVICE EXCELLENCE?

It’s not just processes, systems, or technical knowledge.
It’s how people think, feel, and respond especially under pressure.

CDC Consult recently delivered an Emotional Intelligence for Service Excellence training program across two cohorts for Customer Care & Business Performance (CCBP) and Customer Service Officers (CSO) at Emple Ghana.

The focus was to strengthen the human skills that directly shape customer experience and workplace interactions.

Very early in the sessions, many participants expressed confidence in their ability to manage emotions and handle difficult customers.

But as we moved into real-life scenarios, role plays, and practical exercises, a different reality emerged. That’s where the real work began.

We began to see what happens in the moment:
• Reactions instead of responses
• Listening to reply instead of listening to understand
• Professionalism challenged under pressure
And this is not unique to one organisation; it’s the reality in many workplaces. This is not a skill gap it’s an application gap. Because knowing what to do is one thing, doing it consistently especially under pressure is something else entirely.

As the training progressed, the shift became evident across both cohorts:
• From reacting emotionally to responding intentionally
• From surface listening to genuine understanding
• From routine service delivery to thoughtful customer engagement.
Because in moments of pressure, uncertainty, or conflict, it is not what you know that defines you, but how you show up. And that’s where real service excellence begins, not in policies and not in scripts. But in self-awareness, emotional control, and human connection.

If your team interacts with customers daily, here’s the uncomfortable truth: without emotional intelligence, service quality will always be inconsistent.

The real question is:
Are we developing people who know what to do? Or people who can actually do it when it matters most?

At CDC Consult, we are committed to building not just skilled teams, but emotionally intelligent professionals who deliver real impact.
