We are now working with a nursery in Carlisle who are recruiting for a level 2 Qualified nursery practitioner. They’re interviewing ASAP.

Big changes are coming to the national curriculum, and they’re designed to make sure children leave school truly ready for life and the world of work.

For the first time, primary pupils will be taught how to spot fake news and understand misinformation, essential skills for navigating the online world safely. They’ll also learn more about money, helping build financial confidence much earlier.

The curriculum will also offer triple science for all pupils as well as new qualifications in data science and AI for 16-18-year-olds.

It’s a big step towards ensuring pupils across the country are equipped not just to pass exams, but to thrive. 👏🏻

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about Scotland’s plans to introduce a more flexible four-day teaching week, not a shorter week overall, but a reshaped timetable that gives teachers one day away from the classroom for planning, marking and professional development.

Many teachers say they regularly take work home in the evenings and at weekends, and the proposal is an attempt to recognise that reality rather than ignore it!

It raises an interesting question for us locally, what would people here think if a flexible four-day teaching structure were ever explored in our region?

The Christmas holidays are almost here, with pupils finishing this Friday and what a year it’s been for our schools! 🎄✨

To every teacher, TA, support worker and school leader across Cumbria and Lancashire... well done! You’ve navigated a full year of challenges, triumphs, performances, parents’ evenings, busy classrooms and everything in between.

Now it’s nearly time to switch off, slow down, and enjoy a well-earned break.🎄💜

Winter bugs are already making the rounds, and with Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time for pupils, staff and families to take simple steps to stay healthy!

Here are a few practical reminders as we head closer to the big day:
⭐ Regular handwashing, good ventilation and covering coughs/sneezes.
⭐ If you’re unwell with a high temperature, stay home and rest.
⭐ Get your winter vaccines.

Winter illness peaks every year but with a few proactive steps, students and staff can enjoy a healthier, happier festive season together! 🎄

A huge well done to Solway Community School, officially named the most well-behaved school in the North West for 2025. 👏🏻

The Great British Schools Guide analysed thousands of Parent View responses and found that Solway received an incredible 94% positive feedback for pupil behaviour, placing them first in the region and among the top in the country. Keswick School also ranked highly, coming joint fourth with 89%.

Good behaviour doesn’t just happen, it’s the result of consistent leadership, dedicated staff, and a school culture where children feel supported, safe, and ready to learn! 👏🏻 💜

Outdoor education is back in the spotlight as Cumbrian MP Tim Farron calls for outdoor learning (including residential trips) to be added to the national curriculum.

His campaign highlights something many of our local schools already know well, that time spent outdoors isn’t just a 'nice extra'. It builds resilience, boosts wellbeing, strengthens teamwork and helps children return to the classroom more confident and ready to learn.

Congratulations to Simone Beach, headteacher of Sacred Heart Primary School in Barrow, who has been recognised with a Special Achievement Award at this year’s Cumbria Women of the Year ceremony! 👏🏻

When Sacred Heart’s historic school building was suddenly declared unsafe in early 2023, Simone faced the challenge with courage, resilience and compassion.

Within hours, she coordinated an emergency relocation for pupils, guided her team with calm and clarity, reassured families, and ensured that learning never stopped.

Stories like Simone’s remind us that great schools are built on great leaders- those who put children first, protect their staff, and keep going even when things get tough! 🙌🏻
