🚨 The reason crew stay isn't what most people think...
We asked our yacht network what makes a great leader onboard and the answer was pretty unanimous.
Not experience. Not authority. Not being the toughest person in the room.
Communication. Support. Having your crew's back.
Because when you're living and working in close quarters with the same people for months at a time, how a leader makes you feel matters just as much as what they actually know. The pressure is real, the hours are long, and the environment doesn't leave much room to switch off. A great leader understands that.
The leaders people actually remember? They teach without judgement, create room to grow and put their hands up when things go wrong. They check in, not just on the work but on the people doing it. They genuinely care, and it shows in the way their team shows up every single day.
Here's the stat that stopped us in our tracks:
⚓ 92% of crew said they've stayed on a yacht longer because of a great leader.
In an industry where retention is everything, where finding and keeping great crew is one of the biggest challenges owners and managers face, that's a number worth paying attention to.
Great leaders don't just build strong teams. They build loyalty. And in yachting, loyalty is everything.
So be honest, what's the one leadership quality that would make you stay?
