We have some pretty fancy technology and AI tools at our fingertips these days to help us find candidates.
And don't get me wrong, they have their place.
But after more than 20 years in recruitment, thereās still something pretty special about being able to pick up the phone to someone in your own network and say, āIāve got a role I think youād be perfect for.ā
People youāve built relationships with over years. People youāve had countless conversations with, who youāve placed before, followed through their careers and can confidently vouch for.
And sometimes, those relationships become about much more than recruitment.
You catch up. You hear how their career is going, how their family is doing, how much the kids have grown (and wonder how on earth that happened so quickly!) You share stories about how life has changed since the last time you worked together.
Then, if youāre lucky enough to place that person again, 11 years after the first time⦠well, that feels pretty good. š
This testimonial means a lot to me, not least because it spans 2015 to 2026.
And itās a lovely reminder that while technology can help us search, match and connect, it canāt replace years of genuine relationships, conversations, trust and knowing the people behind the CV.
Thatās the stuff Iāll always love about recruitment. ā¤ļø
