ICON Youth Mentorship ultimate goal is to work with professionals to provide exclusive educational intervention for looked after children of all ages. After working within the care sector for 5 years we had noticed that there seemed to be the same recurring issue of young people not engaging with professionals. After trying to come up with a solution to these answers we here at ICON put ourselves
in the young people's shoes and came to the conclusion that the curriculum is the same for most young persons in an educational environment and is not tailor made to fit the individual. This is not the school's fault as one or two teachers are expected to teach classrooms of 30-50 students. Evidence has shown that Children who do not academically achieve in line with their peers can display challenging behaviours, and this can have a negative impact on the class as a whole and on the individual child education. Here at ICON, we believe that education should be tailored to a young person's interests, ability and support needs. Education should be delivered on a 1:1 basis, in a variety of environments encouraging children to reach their full potential. Understanding success is individual, we reward for a young person's effort regardless of the educational outcome. This approach promotes confidence, enthusiasm and a willingness to engage in education. Each Young person will each have individual intervention plan which can be collaborated by other agencies to provide extra support to the young person. Additional benefits Each young person will have are a tailored educational intervention plan to suit their needs. Work that may be carried out may include can include such things as general mentoring with students, English tuition for non-English speaking young people/adults, life skills training, nutritional education, exercise and fitness, confidence building, mental health awareness, managing triggers, mindfulness, cultural education and many more. ICON employees are all kept up to date on training, have DBS checks and have an array of experience and have worked thousands of hours with various varieties of children.
