𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.

In 26 years of recruitment, I've seen the most success when candidates stop hiding their history and start explaining it. Here is how to defuse "flight-risk" concerns in the M&E sector:

𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻: Start your CV with a summary stating your moves were deliberate—such as contract completions, relocations, or roles where the day-to-day reality didn't match the interview—and that you are now seeking a long-term home.

𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲: Add brief context next to each position, such as (Contract completion), (Strategic relocation), or (Role not as described). Never assume a recruiter will guess the reason for a short stay.

𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗿𝗲: Lead with achievements. A manager will forgive a seven-month stint if you delivered £2m in savings during that window.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘄?" 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁: In interviews, explain the pattern quickly. If a role wasn't what was discussed, be professional: "The actual responsibilities turned out to be very different from our detailed interview discussions, so I moved to find a position that better utilised my core skills."

𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 "𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲" 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳: Volunteer references early. Nothing kills bias faster than a former boss saying they would hire you again in a heartbeat.

𝗕𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: Address the cost of onboarding. Tell them you are only interested in roles where you can commit for 4+ years to ensure mutual ROI.

Hiring managers aren't afraid of job-hoppers; they're afraid of the unknown. Fill the silence, and the bias dissolves.
