Sally on the farm

Sally on the farm "There is no gilding of setting sun or glamour of poetry to light up the ferocious and endless toil of the farmers wives." ~ Hamlin Garland

This page is all about the adventures of Sally Rose Renner - a farmers wife since 2006. In 2011 she has given up part-time employment in the arts work to concentrate on the task of being a 'proper' farmers wife, taking inspiration from her mother-in-law. But, she'll also make time for doing some artwork as she goes along. So, where is the farm? Normanton Lodge Farm is situated in the beautiful cou

nty of Rutland, the smallest county in England, near to the South shore of Rutland Water. The farm specialises in high-grade seed production for major plant breeders and agricultural merchants, working mainly with wheat, peas, beans and linseed. In addition to seed production, the farm grows sugar beet, produces prime British Lamb and rents country cottages.

General information

History of Normanton Lodge Farm Mr Irvine Renner began farming with his father-in-law at Normanton in 1947 and took over in 1961. The farm was developed into a balanced, compact mixed farm with arable and livestock, run as a family partnership between Mr. Renner and his sons. Irvine came to England during World War II. The farm was handed over to Irvine's son Christopher Renner in 1985, who has been farming since then with his wife Ruth and now with his son George and wife Sally.
