We’re often approached by corporates wanting to support Radical Recruit. Despite many conversations, small charities like ours mainly need financial support or pro bono services to cut costs.

Goodwill and brand association are great, but they don’t cover our essential needs like bills, staff salaries, emergency aid, marketing, new sponsor sign-ups, or in-work support for our candidates.

Enter GNC Technology Limited. They’ve committed to sponsoring us with pro bono tech support, treating our small charity with the same professionalism as their big clients.

This sponsorship translates to £20,000 in annual cost savings, allowing us to:

- 🤩 Pay the bills
- 🤩 Pay our staff
- 🤩 Cover emergency aid for Radicals in crisis
- 🤩 Market our services

A huge part of what we do is getting people to realise their potential.

When you’ve grown up surrounded by poor role models, consistently been told you’re not good enough and then time and time again are overlooked for work by employers and recruiters, you start to believe the lies.

Our service isn’t just about finding people jobs.

We don’t operate a “bum on a seat” type model and we are not interested in shoehorning people into jobs that aren’t going to inspire them and pay them so little that they’re trapped in the constant cycle of poverty.

We empower people with the skills, tools and confidence they need to secure long-term and meaningful employment – and be paid fairly for it.

Often this starts by making connections.

Connecting our candidates with good humans who help them to recognise the skills they have so they start to see the value they offer an organisation, in turn, creating the confidence they need to nail an interview.

Sometimes these sessions are a one off.

We’ve worked with some candidates for three years.

Sometimes a session will last an hour.

We’ve been known to spend three hours prepping for interviews with particularly nervous or vulnerable Radicals.

The Radical Recruit Christmas Crowdfunder will allow us to continue this work into 2024, supporting those who are the greatest need of support and ensuring that they don’t “fall through the cracks” again.

Yesterday, the B-Radical Ltd team got together in London to film some content for social media for B-Rad and our now charity,

Here’s a candid snap of me receiving directions from Aladdin, our camera man and producer!

If I were to describe yesterdays experience as succinctly and creatively as possible, I’d say it was like ‘herding cats’.

Four big personalities.

Four silly hearts.

Four talkers who tend not to know when to shadddup!

Heck knows how these ‘up to sixty second reels’ will turn out.

Good or not so, I expect our next attempt will be significantly better and more efficient than our first.

And that’s true of most things we do in business life, right?

Fail, learn, iterate, go again, do better.

One of the key talking points from yesterday is that when it comes to ‘diversity’, we can always do better.

So my key take away seems rather apt.

Radical Rocking Riverside today!

Today, Team Radical kicked off a project to support Radical people closer to the labour market.

We are privileged to meet and work alongside people with such incredible talent to help them progress towards their employment goals.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Pam and all the Radicals who made us feel so incredibly welcome.

We have made a great start on identifying hidden skills and talents today and look forward to ensuring each of our Radicals has a great CV, improved interview technique and the confidence to secure a job they love.

🔑Today, we're talking KEY ACHIEVEMENTS because their seems to be some confusions about these and we dislike confusion at Radical!

Key achievements are NOT what you do on a day-to-day basis.

What you do on a day-to-day basis ARE job duties/responsibilities.

You will have MORE job duties/responsibilities than key achievements.

Unless you are superhuman; in which case, we take it all back!

A great CV will contain BOTH job duties/responsibilities AND key achievements.

So how do you tell the difference between the two?

Job duties/responsibilities describe WHAT you/your candidate does.

Key achievements describe HOW WELL YOU/YOUR CANDIDATE DO WHAT THEY DO.

When listing you key achievements, the trick is to give SPECIFIC EXAMPLES.

"I cut costs' is NOT specific enough.

Employers and recruiters want to know more.

So ask yourselves these types of questions:

How much?

In what time frame?

For what reason?

With what end goal in mind?

How?

'I lowered my team's spend on Nando's by using vouchers I was gifted by my Aunty last Christmas that were due to expire' is UNLIKELY to be seen as a key achievement.

BUT ...

'I reviewed the businesses catering supplier list having been astounded by the previous years spend. Having identified an opportunity to streamline our PSL process and save money, I invited existing suppliers as well as other prospects to tender for our business. Cost, among other things, like supplier sustainability practices were a key metric to assess each application. By formalising the process to become a supplier, and making it more competitive, I was able to dive down the cost of catering by 13% per annum as well as secure partnerships with ethical suppliers who shared our businesses commitment to planet and place'.

Now THAT, is an key achievement.

In fact, its several achievements bundled into one OUTRAGEOUSLY GREAT KEY ACHIEVEMENT!

See what a huge difference those bare simple questions make if you take the time to ask yourself them?

Out of work and struggling with your identity?

Ask yourself this question:

What words would your friends, family, college tutors, work placement supervisor or previous boss use to describe you?

If we were to hazard a guess ... none would use the word 'unemployed'.

Sure, you may not be in work at the moment. But is that really what you should be leading with?

At Radical, much of the reason we love what we do is because of the people we get to spending time working with.

We think most people in most businesses would say the same thing.

So what would they say about you?

Might they say:

“Kind”

“Caring”

“Ambitious”

“Inspiring”

“Intelligent”

“Brave”

“Determined”

“Responsible”

“Adventurous”
