Work experience is meant to open doors, but here’s the reality:
• Only 26% of young people accessed any work experience last year—even though 74% say it matters.
• Just 40% of students get meaningful workplace experience before leaving school.
• Only 11% of schools fully meet all 8 Gatsby Benchmarks, and employer engagement is still patchy.
• The gaps are biggest for those who need it most—disadvantaged and SEND students.
