💻️ WEBINAR: Can co‑operatives help fix social care? ⁉️

Our recently published ‘Social Care Co‑operatives in the UK’ report (with Cwmpas, Centre for Care and others) highlighted the potential for co‑operative approaches to deliver better quality, more person‑centred care, improve conditions for care workers and strengthen local communities.

🏗️ So we can explore building on this valuable research, we’re holding a free webinar, ‘Can co‑operatives fix social care?’ on Tuesday 23 June at 2‑3.30pm. Speakers include:

💬 Serena Vicario, lead author of the Social Care Co‑operatives in the UK report from the Centre for Health Service Studies at the University of Kent.

💬 Equal Care Co-op, one of the UK’s most innovative social care co‑operatives, sharing their experience of delivering relationship-centred, democratic care.

Together we’ll explore the report’s findings and recommendations, discuss the opportunities and challenges facing social care co‑operatives – and consider what needs to happen next to support their growth. 🌱

🫶 Whether you work in social care, policy, commissioning, local government, the co‑operative sector or are simply interested in building a fairer care system, we’d love you to join us. And you can share any thoughts or ideas with us ahead of the webinar by emailing [email protected].

Doubling the size of the co-operative and mutual sector cannot stay as a warm ambition.

It has to become a serious delivery agenda, with funding, finance, legislation and pace behind it.

As co-operatives and mutuals gather in Parliament today to mark the first birthday of the Mutuals Business Council, our Policy and Development Lead, James Wright, looks at the progress government has already made, from local power to community ownership and credit unions.

But this summer is decisive. If ministers want the impact to be visible by the next election, the next phase has to be bolder and faster.

Read James’ full piece on what’s been achieved, what’s missing and why doubling the sector could help build a fairer, more resilient UK economy (link in the comments).
