Are employers doing enough to develop the next generation of finance leaders?

Strong FCs, FDs and CFOs do not appear overnight. They are often shaped years earlier by the opportunities, support and progression routes available to junior and part-qualified finance professionals.

For employers, that means looking beyond immediate hiring needs and thinking carefully about the long-term finance talent pipeline.

In his latest blog, John Mackey, Associate Director explores:

🔹 Why early-career finance professionals need the right exposure and support
🔹 How employers can help develop future leaders
🔹 Why succession planning matters for long-term business resilience

To help achieve this, we have a checklist for clients, so that they can review their own recruitment processes to increase inclusion and hopefully improve diversity and representation within their workforce.

Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar last week in conjunction with JLD BB&O. The webinar focused on helping Trainee Lawyers and NQ Lawyers think through their career choices and the areas of law that may be right for them.

Associate Director Faith Kelly and Senior Consultant Ashleigh Curtis shared practical advice for trainee solicitors and Newly Qualified Lawyers on choosing the right area of law, understanding the NQ recruitment process and thinking about long-term career options.

A few key takeaways from the session included:
💠 Start conversations early, even if you hope to stay with your training firm
💠Think about the work itself, not just the team or supervisor you enjoyed working with
💠Consider whether you prefer contentious or non-contentious work
💠Factor in client contact, salary, flexibility and long-term career goals
💠If your first choice is not available, get advice before making a decision

Your first NQ role is an important step, but it does not have to define the rest of your career.

We recorded the session, so if you were unable to attend or would like to receive a copy of this, please get in touch with us on the details below.
