THE END OF AN ERA! (UPDATE: read on to end)

Mega City Comics was established in 1981, and has been operating from our shop in Camden Town since 1987. After 43 years (and 37 years in the same shop), Martin, the owner, is taking retirement, and the shop will be closing at the end of Jan 2025. We had originally hoped to pass on the mantle to a new owner, but a suitable candidate has unfortunately, not been forthcoming (although do read to the end!).
It has been a joyous ride (for Martin, all of his adult life), and we have had some great staff and some great customers (a crazy number who have been here pretty much from the start, and stuck with us throughout). So it is a bitter sweet event to be closing the doors.

The mail-order/standing order service will be winding up at the end of the year, and final parcels will be going out no later than early Jan 25.

We are not quite finished yet, and we will be going out with an upbeat BANG!, so if you can make it into the shop over the next two months, there will be some once-in-a-lifetime deals to be had. The back room back issue stores are being opened up, and the shop is bursting to the seams with comic goodness, ranging all the way back to 1940’s Golden Age, through classic Silver and Bronze, and right up to modern day books. We have always offered up a huge range, but for the final run, there is more on show and available than ever before! Fine tune those wants lists, raid the piggy bank, and head on in and fill your boots. The FINAL CLEARANCE SALE will be launched in early Jan, but we recommend you get in earlier than that, and get your choice pick of everything we have, as there are deals to be had NOW and negotiations to be made!

Dealers, bulk buyers and re-sellers – we will have some clearance offers on excess stock available soon – drop us an email if interested in taking 1,000 plus to 10,000 items. Wholesale inquiries are by invitation only – you can’t just drop in unannounced – but we welcome you registering any interest now.

Whilst we are fully preparing to shut up shop, this is still a profitable and feasible business here, so if there are any last minute inquiries, from a serious party, with a passion comics, a strong business background, and secure funding, we would be happy to discuss the potential possibilities.

We are open 7 days a week, right through mid Jan (closed Dec 25,26,27), and look forward to seeing customers old and new.

UPDATE!
Since first posting, we have had a number of approaches from prospective new owners, and are very hopeful that the shop still has a future at it's current location. We will make an announcement early next year. Happy Christmas.

COMIC SHOP VACANCY
Time to give this another outing, as we are still looking to swell the ranks on the lead up to Summer. We are looking for one or two new members of staff to join our hard working team.
We are considering both full and part-time applications.
If you are hard working, computer literate, with a genuine enthusiasm for comics and graphic novels, and a good working knowledge of today's market, we would be happy to hear from you. We are looking for applicants who have more than just a casual interest in comics. That you like comics and know about certain characters is a given. You will need to demonstrate a knowledge and passion for what is coming out on a weekly basis. Applicants product knowledge will be put to the test. Applicants should ideally, though not essentially, have retail, customer service experience preferably in the book, comic or record industry.
Applications should include a formal CV, along with a separate letter detailing why you would like to work for us, and a recent photograph (so we can keep track of who is who).
With a new fully refurbished shop space and an eagerness from customers both old and new to continue 'safe' shopping, this is an exciting opportunity to join us

What Mummy does before she goes away, leaving her precious moppets, beloved husband and adorable dogs-

• Cleans the house, and does all the laundry.
• Goes to the supermarket and fills the fridge and cupboards with healthy and nutritious snackage for said precious moppets.
• Batch cooks several ‘emergency’ meals for the freezer ‘just in case’.
• Leaves a detailed schedule of the children’s appointments, activities and social engagements, with notes on who needs to be exactly where, why and when.
• Makes a spreadsheet of important phone numbers for everyone, including school, doctors, dentists etc and emails this to the rest of the family.
• Lies awake at night racked with anxiety at how much therapy her children will need in the future due to her callous abandonment of them for three days to pursue her career, while wondering if she should give it all up and stay home and bake fu***ng cupcakes with them forever more so they are not scarred for life.
• Assures her darlings that she is only on the end of the phone and they can call or text her any time if they need her.

What Daddy does before he goes away-

• Thinks about how many pairs of pants and socks he needs.
• Packs pants and socks.
• F***s off.

What Mummy does while she is away-

• Fields angry texts about why there are no Doritos.
• Sends and resends the spreadsheet of important phone numbers because no one can find them.
• Also repeatedly resends the list of who/ what/ where/ when/ why.
• Answers eleventy fu***ng billion texts about where is the frying pan/ cheese grater/ other household objects that have lived IN THE SAME BASTARDING PLACE FOR THE LAST TEN SODDING YEARS!
• Thinks about what her life would have been like if she had just got dogs instead of getting married and having children, and wishes kennels to send children to while you were away was an actual thing. Wonders if she could pitch this idea to Dragon’s Den or if it would be Frowned Upon?

What Daddy does while he is away-

• Claims to be too Busy and Important to have time to explain why the fu***ng gadget he insisted on installing to control the heating has stopped working, because he is very Busy and Important, and has he mentioned that he is Busy and Important?
• Drinks beer.
• Insists he is very tired due to the Busy and Importantness.

We are looking for people that can effectively clerk governing body/ trustee meetings. Ideally a background in Education is useful as is knowledge of Ofsted. Attention to detail is key, and be able to work to deadlines. Meetings are on site at schools in Greater London but mostly North and North West.
