Are you a graduate who's not yet got a foot on the career ladder? Are you frustrated with your job search?
Don't worry, you're not the only one. It's exactly how Ella felt before her CV Review with our expert, Natasha Woodford. Ella has just given us a 5 star review on Google My Business, her review is quoted in the image below - thanks, Ella!
Our website gives details of the CV & Career Consultation we did with Ella, it's £199plus VAT for a personalised 1:1 session. You can also book using this link 👀 https://clockworktalent.com/career-coach-cv-writing-and-job-search/
Ella graduated in 2024. She's travelled for best part of 6 months and, having just returned, is focused on landing her dream job - to work in one of the big consulting firms in their ESG practice. Environmental, Social and Governance careers are highly sought after. I mean, who doesn't want to make a difference in the world? To get an interview invite, your CV needs to be better than the other applicants by making sure it is the BEST it can be. Recruiters and hiring managers are looking for the best and for reasons to rule you out. Typos and grammatical errors are obvious "no-no's" but what about the "yes-yes's"?
What do you write in your CV when all you've done is school and university?
Ella's original CV was ok, and it'd probably land a few general interview invites.
✅We doubled her "Skills & Tools" section to ensure those keywords were in her CV. As Ella knows what she wants to do (and it's competitive) it's better to tailor her CV so upon application AI/recruitment automation will select it based on her specialist job criteria.
✅A list of academic qualifications just isn't enough. We added university course modules to allow hiring managers to see Ella already has a foundation of knowledge in those specialist topics.
✅We also added Ella's extracurricular projects, showing she regularly goes above and beyond what is required, as well as her voluntary work.
✅Being a "bare bones" graduate, the CV should only be 1 page (2 pages is fine when you're a few years in, but with virtually zero experience, having one glorious page full of valuable information is enough). It took a lot of formatting, but we made sure we packed a lot into that one page!
✅We added the jobs Ella held through university and holidays. These show employers she's a grafter and knows the basics of working - punctuality, appearance and responsibility. It "de-risks" the idea of her as a new graduate recruit. Also, when employees return to a company time and time again, it shows there's been a good relationship and that the employer has valued the employee's contribution.
✅We also added an "Interests" section for Ella, as these can make an applicant memorable.
We know CV writing is hard, because it's about yourself. With us asking open-ended questions, it prompted Ella to give up a lot of new information that she'd previously thought irrelevant!
