⚓ Today is Merchant Navy Day – 3rd September 2026 ⚓

Today, we proudly recognise and celebrate the men and women of the Merchant Navy – the seafarers who work every day, often away from their families for long periods, to keep our country connected, supplied and moving.

The importance of our Merchant Navy cannot be overstated.

95% of the UK’s trade is transported by sea, highlighting just how dependent we are on the maritime industry and, most importantly, the people behind it.

At Jobs in Maritime, we have the privilege of working with seafarers and maritime professionals every day. We see first-hand the experience, dedication and professionalism required to build a career at sea.

Merchant Navy Day is an opportunity to recognise those serving today, those who have served before them, and the generations of seafarers who have helped shape Britain’s maritime heritage. ⚓

🔴 Today, fly the Red Ensign with pride.

Whether you're a seafarer, maritime employer, port, shipping company or simply someone who wants to show their support, get involved and help raise awareness.

A huge thank you to our Merchant Navy seafarers – past and present. ⚓

⚓ MERCHANT NAVY DAY – 3RD SEPTEMBER 2026 ⚓

On 3rd September, we come together to recognise and celebrate the incredible men and women of the UK Merchant Navy – past and present.

The Merchant Navy has played a vital role in our nation for centuries — keeping Britain supplied through two World Wars and continuing today to transport the food, fuel, medicines and goods that we all rely on.

🚢 Around 95% of UK imports and exports depend on shipping.

🌍 Almost 1.9 million merchant seafarers work worldwide.

⚓ An estimated 24,550 UK seafarers are currently active at sea.

Behind every vessel, every cargo and every Red Ensign are the people who keep global trade moving.

This Merchant Navy Day, 3rd September, businesses, ports, maritime organisations, councils and individuals across the UK can show their support by flying the Red Ensign and helping raise awareness of the contribution our merchant seafarers make every single day.

🔴 Fly the Red Ensign.

⚓ Recognise our seafarers.

🇬🇧 Celebrate our maritime heritage.

📢 Help spread the word.

If you work within the maritime, shipping, ports or logistics community, please share this and encourage your organisation to get involved.

Let’s get the Red Ensign flying across the UK on 3rd September! ⚓
