I began iGrow Careers Ltd in the wake of the 2020 pandemic when we all needed, and still need, extra support in our careers and businesses. On the Kensington Podcast I explain the benefits of career coaching and occupational psychology:

- Helping people find purpose, pass interviews and get to the right place.
- Helping companies select, develop and retain talented people.

Being kind, especially in the midst of challenging, distressing circumstances is a high form of intelligence...

🌱 Kindness requires patience, courage and generosity — combined with the ability to communicate gracefully.

♥️ Kindness can change someone’s entire day and restore hope.

🙏🏽 It is the glue that allows human connection and this is what we need now more than ever.

❌ Kindness does not mean tolerating injustice but few situations warrant pointed anger and judgement.

🤝 In the ‘new normal’ we could be more accepting of different views, lifestyles, slip-ups or how others are coping.

💡Some self-improvement ideas around kindness...
- Spot little opportunities to be kind or at least not to react in anger.
- Be patient and accepting of yourself first, then naturally you’ll be more available and kind to others.
- Do this in person and online 🤳🏼 being kind online just spreads the message faster and it is still “real”.

People and situations who ‘put the gin in my tonic’ and those who have a generous spirit, energise, and inspire.

It can be difficult to leave situations, relationships and jobs that are no longer good for us. It takes energy, courage and planning to make a change.

But it is worth it.

we love helping people through change that would serve them better in the future.
Get in touch with us at [email protected] and we’ll help you get there.

If you’ve received no response after a job interview and you didn’t hear back even after you followed up on your job application - move forward 💪🏼

Remember, you want to be part of a team that can see the best in you and want you.

How a company treats you during an application process shows how they treat their employees and customers. So if you have not been treated in a respectful way, move on and get to a better place for you 💯

Before you head into your next interview, review your performance, and make sure you didn’t make any missteps.

Have you heard of the ? The recency effect is the tendency to remember the most recently presented information best.
Here are some questions to ask at the end of your job interview to make a good last impression:

Q. I really want this job and want to make sure you have everything you need from me - can I share any more detail with you before this interview ends?
- This confirms to the interviewer that you are still keen, that you are confident and gives you another chance to show them that you are the right person.

Q. I am successful in my application I want to make sure I can help with the upcoming business challenges – what are the business priorities in the next 6 months?
- This is another chance for you to highlight the relevant skills, experience and motivation you have to help them with their challenges.

Q. From what I’ve seen it looks like there is a positive culture here. I was curious, what do you enjoy most about working here?
- Shows interest in them.

Have you heard of the Effect? 😇 The halo effect is a type of cognitive bias in which our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about their character. Here are some tips on how to make a good first impression at your next interview:

o Be and look well rested
o Research the company, job and prepare answers to likely questions
o Be on time, better still be at least 10 mins early
o Wear professional clothes with a professional background – if it is a virtual interview
o Make a strong and positive opening: ‘Thank you for inviting me for this interview, I am excited about this opportunity, I’ve prepared and I am ready to share my skills and experiences’
o Smile and make eye contact – look at the camera if it is virtual
o Have your shoulders back / not slouched
o When the interviewer is talking, smile, listen and nod gently.

There are a lot of new courses available now, especially online. But before you throw your money out the door, it is important that you consider a range of questions beyond the typical ones around how much it will cost and how long will it take. Here are 5 questions that I suggest you answer up front:
✨Is the course accredited by a governing body?
✨Will my future clients/employer value that I took this course?
✨Will this course teach skills that I don’t already have?
✨Are these skills necessary for my target job?
✨Are there payment plans available?
