You can know your VO2 max, resting heart rate and biological age and still have absolutely no idea how to be kind to yourself on a difficult Tuesday afternoon.

And honestly? That might be the wellness conversation we need right now.

We can track almost everything - our sleep, steps, glucose, hormones, recovery. There’s always another metric to improve, another routine to perfect, another version of ourselves to become.

But what about joy? Connection? Purpose? Feeling alive?

Sarah Ann Macklin asks whether, somewhere along the way, we’ve become so focused on being well that we’ve forgotten what we wanted to be well for.

Her latest piece explores what happens when self-care starts to feel like self-improvement and why sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is stop trying to optimise ourselves and actually listen to what we need.

Sarah will be taking this conversation even further at Live Well Festival on 25 September.

Come and hear her challenge what we think wellness is supposed to look like and ask a much better question: what does it actually feel like to live well?

Victoria Pendleton cried before every race.

She was told to hide her fear, to show less emotion and to be “more like the men”.

But she went out there and won anyway.

Because fear never meant she was weak, it never meant she was incapable and it never stopped her performing at her best.

In our latest interview, Victoria opens up about fear, failure, vulnerability and the moment she realised that fear could be an opportunity, not an obstacle.

You don’t have to feel fearless to do something extraordinary.

And at Live Well Festival on 25 September, Victoria will be taking this conversation even further: what fear can teach us, how we move through failure, and how we find the courage to do the things that scare us.

Come and hear it from someone who knows exactly what it takes to feel the fear and do it anyway.

IT’S TIME. Tickets are officially HERE for The Power Years Live 🔥

And if you missed last year, here’s your warning: it sold out.

On 6 November, we’re taking over Arding & Hobbs in London for a day built around one unapologetic idea: Experience is your greatest advantage.

This is not a day about being told how to age gracefully and it’s not about fixing yourself and it’s definitely not about pretending you’ve got it all figured out.

It’s about owning what you know, what you’ve lived, what your body is telling you, the women beside you and everything that’s still possible.

We’ll be exploring three things that matter:
💫 YOUR AUTHORITY - what experience has earned you.
💫 YOUR BODY - understanding the body you actually live in.
💫 THE BOND - the women who make everything better.

Power Years is becoming a movement and 6 November is where it comes to life.

🎟️ TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Book by 30 September for the early bird rate.

What if the answer isn't pushing harder but learning to work with your body, instead of constantly working against it?

Your energy isn't the same every day. Your hormones change, your body changes, your life changes.

And yet we're often expected to perform as though none of that matters.

At Live Well Festival 2026, we're cutting through the noise around women's hormonal health with a conversation designed to give you something far more useful than another list of things you should be doing.

Join Eleanor Hoath, Registered Nutritional Therapist and Founder of The Well Edit
Polly Vernon, journalist and author
Gail Madalena, Senior Nutritionist at Wild Nutrition

As they explore the science behind women's energy, cycles and key life stages - from early career to menopause.

Expect practical, science-backed insights you can actually use to feel better, understand your body and perform at your best without constantly pushing through.

Because your body isn't the obstacle to your success, it's part of the equation.

Tears at the school gates? Loving mum.
Tears in the office? Not coping.

Same tears but a completely different verdict.

We’re perfectly comfortable with women crying when the emotion fits the story we’ve given them: motherhood, grief, pride, joy.

But put those same tears in a workplace and suddenly they can become evidence that a woman is too emotional, not resilient enough, or somehow less capable.

Rachel Reeves found that out when her tears in the House of Commons became a headline. And most working women have probably experienced a quieter version of the same judgement: the panic of feeling your eyes fill up in a meeting and immediately wondering what everyone will think.

Tears are a human response. They don't make us less competent, less ambitious or less capable of leading.

So why have we decided that being emotional is acceptable everywhere except the places where women are expected to perform?

Maybe it’s time we stopped treating tears as a performance metric.

What happens when you become a mother, but the woman who taught you how to be one is no longer there?

For Helen, motherhood has meant navigating the biggest moments of her children's lives without the person she would instinctively turn to.

Her mum died a decade before her first child was born. Since then, every milestone has carried a double edge: the joy of watching her children grow, and the ache of knowing her own mother isn't there to see it.

School gates, birthday parties, Mother's Day. The moments when other women casually mention the childcare their mums provide.

They can all bring the same question back: What would my mum have said?

In her latest Long View, Helen writes with extraordinary honesty about the grief that motherhood has reopened, the anger that can come with it, and the invisible gap left behind when there is no mother to reach for.

But she also writes about finding the women who understand. The community that began with a Facebook post and became The Motherless Mothers, proving that sometimes the people who can hold your grief best are the ones carrying a version of it themselves.

What if your greatest advantage is everything you’ve already lived?

Read that again.

Because midlife isn’t a moment to fade into the background. It’s the moment to turn everything you’ve learned into what comes next.

The Power Years Summit is BACK. 🔥

It sold out.

We’re not going to reveal everything yet…but we can tell you this:

“I hate the word networking.”

Because networking can sound like collecting contacts, making small talk and wondering what you can get from someone.

But what if we’ve been thinking about it all wrong?

Sometimes networking is simply having the confidence to reach out, to reconnect with someone you haven’t spoken to in years, to ask for advice, to say I’d love your help even when every part of you is screaming that it’s awkward.

And yes, even Miranda Priestly needs her network.

In our latest What We’re Talking About, Dolly Jones makes the case for a more human kind of networking - one built on genuine relationships, curiosity and the courage to ask.

Because you never know where a conversation might lead.
