“Have you got any questions for me?” Cue panic. Cue blank mind. Cue awkward smile. 🌝
We've all been there. But to paraphrase a certain Pretty Woman: "Big mistake. Huge(ly avoidable)."
Asking great questions at the end of an interview can be the difference between “It was nice to meet you” and “Welcome to the team.” It shows you’ve done your homework, care about the role, and want to make an impact. 💥
Not sure what to ask? Here are some ideas:
1. “What are the key priorities for this role in the next 6–12 months?”
- Shows you’re thinking ahead, and helps you avoid any nasty surprises on day one. Win/win.
2. “How would you describe the team dynamics and culture?”
- Helps you figure out if it’s a vibe-match for you, or an immediate nope.
3. “What learning and development opportunities are available?”
- Sends a clear signal: I want to grow, and I want to grow HERE.
4. “What are the next steps in the process?”
- No more obsessively checking your inbox. This shows you're keen, and helps you manage your own expectations.
5. “Is there anything you'd like me to elaborate on?”
- Shows confidence, self-awareness, and gives you a chance to address any doubts they might be secretly harbouring.
Remember, interviews are two-way. You’re evaluating them, too.
So ask bold questions. Get real answers.
And walk out knowing whether it’s a “yes please” or a “hard pass.” 🙌
Now go nail it. You’ve got this 🔥
